울진 후포리유적과 한반도 남부의 신석기 선도제천문화 (Uljin Hupori Relics and Sundo Heaven Ritual(仙道祭天) Culture of Neolithic Age in Southern Korean Peninsula)

초록

최근 고고학적 발굴의 성과가 축적되면서 아무르강과 오소리강이 합류하는 지점에 위치한 흑수백산지구 소남산문화에서 맥족계 선도제천문화의 특징을 고스란히 간직한 ‘구릉성 적석단총’유적이 발굴되면서 중기 신석기문화(서기전 7200∼서기전 6600년 경)의 내용적 성격이 드러나게 되었다. 아무르강 하류-연해주-한반도 동해안의 문화가 서로 관련된 문화임이 고고학적으로 입증되고 있는 현재의 상황에서 한반도 동남해안 에 나타나는 신석기시대의 구릉성 단총과 아무르강과 백두산을 사이에 둔 흑수백산지 구의 구릉성 단총간에 형태적⋅내용적 공통점을 발견하게 된다.
지금까지 한반도 신석기시대의 구릉성 단총은 그 문화의 내용성보다는 입지, 묘제, 장법, 두향, 부장품 위주로 연구되어 왔기에 단순히 사자의 무덤이란 측면에서 연구되어 왔다. 하지만 흑수백산지구 소남산문화에서 시작된 선도제천문화의 시각으로 바라본다 면 단순한 무덤의 의미를 넘어 제천시설로 바라보게 된다. 흑수백산지구 소남산문화는 ‘적석단총-옥⋅석기문화’로 선도제천문화임이 드러난 바 본고에서는 한반도 남부 신석 기시대 구릉성 석단총유적 중 흑수백산지구 선도제천문화의 전통을 반영한 전형적인 유적으로 울진 후포리유적을 조명해 보았다.
울진 후포리유적은 야트막한 구릉상의 야산 정상부에 7개의 화강암괴로 둘러진 자연 구덩이를 이용하여 40여 구의 인골을 순차적으로 세골장한 집단 매장유적이다. 토기는 1점도 없이 180여 점의 장대형석부와 비, 관옥 등 옥⋅석기만을 부장하여 ‘구릉성 석단총’을 조성하였기에 ‘구릉성 석단총-옥⋅석기문화’로 볼 수 있어 흑수백산지구 소남산문화계통의 선도제천문화로 바라볼 수 있기 때문이다.
소남산문화에 나타난 ‘환호를 두른 구릉성 적석단총’은 사방에서 조망이 좋고 하늘과 가까운 탁 트인 공간 즉 ‘구릉지’라는 입지 조건, 무덤 조성시 돌을 이용하여 ‘적석’의 방식을 채용한 점에서 선도제천을 위한 구릉성 적석단총으로 바라보고, 단총내 제천 의기인 ‘옥⋅석기를 부장’한 측면에서 ‘구릉성 적석단총-옥⋅석기문화’로 바라본다.
울진 후포리유적 역시 ‘구릉지’라는 입지 조건, ‘화강암괴’로 둘러진 자연구덩이를 무덤으로 이용한 점, 제천 의기인 ‘옥⋅석기만을 부장’한 점 등을 들어 ‘구릉성 석단총- 옥⋅석기문화’로 바라보게 된다. 후포리 석단총의 묘주들은 후포리 지역사회에 선도제 천문화를 알리고 보급한 중심 인물들로 제천 의기인 마제석부 제작을 전문으로 하는 장인이자 선인층(仙人層) 즉 사제 계층의 일원이었으리라 미루어 짐작하게 된다.

Recently by accumulated results of excavation, the content characteristics of the middle neolithic culture (around B.C.7200∼B.C.6600) came to be revealed through the excavation of ‘the hilly stone mound alter⋅ tombs’ in Xiaonanshan culture (小南山文化) in Amur river-Mt.Baekdusan area, which is located on the confluent spot of Ussuri river and Amur river. And it cherished intactly the features of Maek(貊) race’s Sundo heaven ritual culture. Under the present circumstance that the cultures of Amur river downstream-Primorsky Krai-east coast of Korean peninsula are proved to be linked archaeologically, the neolithic hilly altar⋅tombs that appeared in southeast coast of Korean peninsula are found to have something in common with those of Amur river-Mt.Baekdusan area in forms and contents.
Until now, the hilly altar⋅tombs have been researched mainly by the location, tomb type, burial system, head direction, and grave goods rather than the culture contents. In other words, it was studied only as a dead human’s grave. However, it can be regarded as facility for heaven ritual beyond the simple meaning of a tomb if you see it in the viewpoint of Sundo heaven ritual culture that started in Xiaonanshan culture of Amur river-Mt. Baekdusan area. Because Xiaonanshan culture revealed itself as Sundo heaven ritual culture with ‘stone mound altar⋅tombs-jade⋅stoneware culture’, this thesis examined Uljin Hupori relics as a typical relics that reflected Sundo heaven ritual culture tradition of Amur river-Mt.Baekdusan area among neolithic hilly stone mound altar⋅tomb relics in southern Korean peninsula.
Uljin Hupori relics is a group burial relics which buried 40 people’s clean bones in order using natural hole pit surrounded by 7 granite rocks on a low hill top. As they composed ‘the hilly stone mound altar⋅tomb’ only with jade⋅stonewares-no earthen wares, more than 180 long big stone axes(石斧), Bi(匕)s, and bugled jades(管玉), it can be accounted as ‘the hilly stone mound altar⋅tombs-jade⋅stoneware culture’ descended from Xiaonanshan Sundo heaven ritual culture.
‘The hilly stone mound altar⋅tombs with a moat’ shown in Xiaonanshan culture have wide open view from all around and open space close to the sky. So by the location condition of hill land and ‘the stone mounding’ method adapted using stones when composing the tomb, the writer regards it as a hilly stone mound altar⋅tomb for Sundo heaven ritual. And as it had jade⋅stone ritual wares buried in the altar⋅tomb, the writer counts it as ‘the hilly stone mound altar⋅tombs- jade⋅stoneware culture’.
Uljin Hupori relics also has the location condition of hill land, and utilized natural hole pit surrounded by granite rocks, and had ‘only jade⋅stonewares buried’. Therefore it is regarded as ‘the hilly stone mound altar⋅tombs-jade⋅ stoneware culture’. The writer guesses the owners of Hupori stone mound altar⋅tomb might be the central figures in the local society who notified and popularized Sundo heaven ritual culture to Hupori society, and the master artisans who expertised in making polished stone axes as well as the members of priests class, that is to say Sunin(仙人) class.
