초록

본 논문의 목적은 동서방교회의 영성훈련에서 중요한 역할을 해온 관 상기도의 역사를 살펴보고 한국교회에 적용을 위한 방안들을 제안하는 것 이다. 이를 위해 첫째, 영성가들에 의해 주목 받은 성서의 핵심구절들을 살펴봄을 통해 관상기도의 신학적 의미를 살펴보았다. 영성가들은 하나님 의 사랑에 대한 영적 갈망을 강조하기 위해 아가서 8:6–7을 주목하였고 마음의 청결을 강조하기 위해 마태복음 5:8을 주목하였다. 둘째, 서방 가 톨릭교회에서 실천하는 렉시오 디비나와 동방정교회에서 실천하는 예수 기도의 실천적 원리들을 분석하였다. 렉시오 디비나와 예수기도 모두 기 본적인 원리는 끊임없이 활동을 하는 생각에게 잡념을 극복하고 성령이 내재하는 마음을 지향하도록 하는 것이라고 할 수 있다. 이를 위해 렉시오 디비나는 성서구절을 묵상하는 것이고 예수기도는 예수기도문의 단어 하 나하나를 음미하며 반복적으로 기도하는 것이다. 렉시오 디비나와 예수기 도는 각각 장점들이 있는데 렉시오 디비나는 잡념이 잘 진정되는 것과 누 구나 정화와 조명의 은혜를 경험할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 한편 예수기도는 쉬지 말고 기도하라는 가르침을 일상에서 실현할 수 있는 것과 생각이 마 음에 머무름을 통해 사고와 감성이 통합된 내면세계를 유지할 수 있는 장 점이 있다. 물론 두 방법 모두 생각이 마음에 이르러 성령의 임재 가운데 머물기에 마음에 실현된 하나님의 나라(롬 14:17) 가운데 사는 삶을 약속 한다. 끝으로, 한국교회의 적용을 위해 다섯 가지의 방법들을 제안하였다. 첫째는 통성기도에 침묵기도를 접목하는 방법이다. 통성기도로 간구할 것 을 마친 후에 성령의 임재 가운데 오래 머무는 것이다. 둘째는 렉시오 디 비나를 응용한 QT로 적용을 중시하는 QT 방법에 적용보다는 본문 가운 데 머무름을 강조하는 렉시오 디비나의 방법을 응용하는 것이다. 한국교 회의 QT는 머무름보다는 적용에 집중하기에 적용의 열매가 부족한 것이 사실이다. 포도나무 비유처럼 충분히 머무른다면 자연스럽게 열매가 나타 날 것이다. 셋째는 찬양과 침묵기도인데 찬양시간 중간이나 끝에 감동 받 은 찬양의 가사를 묵상하며 침묵기도를 하는 것이다. 그러면 찬양을 통해받은 감동이 오래 유지되어 삶의 변화도 경험하게 될 것이다. 넷째는 예수 기도를 응용한 침묵기도로 예수기도 없이도 생각이 마음에 이르러 성령의 임재를 갈망하는 침묵기도를 하는 것이다. 이것은 쉬지 말고 기도하라는 말씀을 일상에서 실천할 수 있는 길이며 동시에 마음에 이루어진 하나님 의 생명을 경험하는 길이다. 다섯째는 피조물 묵상을 통한 침묵기도로 피 조물 묵상을 통해 피조물을 아름답게 돌보는 창조주가 자신도 돌보는 것 을 묵상하는 것이다. 인간은 누구나 자연 속에 머무는 것을 좋아하기에 이 것은 묵상 훈련을 위해서도 유익한 방법이다.

Desire for God —A Review of the History of Contemplative Prayer and its Application for the Korean church Sucheon Kim Assistant Professor Hyupsung University HwaSung City This research aims to review the history of contemplative prayer, which has been significant in Christian spiritual discipline, and to sug- gest its application to the Korean church. For this purpose, this article first reviews the theological meaning of contemplative prayer through key Biblical texts that were noted by spiritual experts. They empha- size the spiritual desire for God’s love expressed in Song of Songs 8:6–7 and the purity of the heart expressed in Matt. 5:8. This study also analyzes the practical principles of Lectio Divina, as practiced by the Roman Catholic Church, and the Jesus Prayer, as practiced by the Eastern Orthodox church. The purpose of both Lectio Divina and the Jesus Prayer is that the mind will reach the heart, where the Holy Spirit remains, and be free from thoughts. While Lectio Divina achieves this by meditating upon the Bible, the Jesus Prayer focuses on repetition. Each prayer has its strengths. Lectio Divina helps over- come the activity of thoughts and experience the purification and the illumination which are a necessary process for the union with God. The Jesus Prayer practices consistent prayer in daily life and dwelling in an inner state where mind and emotion harmonize. Both promises that we live in the kingdom of God realized in our hearts, as Rom. 14:17 says. This article also suggests some methods that apply to the Korean Church. The first is to perform a silent prayer after Tongsung prayer. The purpose of the silent prayer is to remain in the presence of the Holy Spirit after petitioning with the Tongsung prayer. The sec- ond is to focus quiet time on meditation and contemplation, follow- ing Lectio Divina. One criticism that the Korean church faces is that it does not bear much fruit of the Holy Spirit, since its members focus on the application to the life without enough meditation and contem- plation. If more time and attention are given to meditation and con- templation, this should naturally result in experiencing more fruits, as promised in the parable of the vine in John 15: 1–17. The third method is to integrate silent prayer after a time of praise, in order to meditate on the lyrics. Since music is rooted in emotional expression, a time of silent prayer after the praise time could directly lead to a deeper spiritual connection. As a result, the believers may even expe- rience the change of their life. The fourth maintains that silent prayer is integral to practice the principles of the Jesus Prayer in daily life. This promises a way to obey the teaching “Pray continually” in 1 Thess. 5:17. It also promises a way to experience the inner life of God as the result of continuous prayer. The fifth method is to practice silent prayer with an emphasis on creatures. Believers can observe the care of the Creator for themselves through the life of creatures, since the Creator cherishes humans even more than nature itself. The natural environment also has the added benefit of generating a sense of peace, as supported by the fact that many people enjoy meditating in nature.
