초록

세계평화통일가정연합의 유일신 호칭은 신종교적 양상을 보여주는 사례에 해당한다. 본 논문은 세계평화통일가정연합의 기독교 유일신 호칭의 계승과 새로운 유일신호칭으로의 변경 배경에 초점을 맞추며, 변경된 유일신 호칭의 종교적 함의를 살펴보고자 한다. 세계평화통일가정연합이 기독교의 아버지 호칭을 종단 초창기부터 계승해 온 것은 신과 인간의 관계가 부모와 자녀의 관계임을 인식할 수 있었기 때문이다. 그러나남성화된 유일신 호칭은 기독교에서 신의 본질이 왜곡될 수 있으므로 새로운 대안에관한 모색이 요청되는 상황이다. 세계평화통일가정연합이 하늘부모님으로 유일신 호칭을 변경한 것은 기독교의 유일신 호칭에 대한 문제의식과 무관하다고 볼 수 없으며, 기원절이라는 종교적 배경과 직접적인 관련이 있다. 기원절은 회복된 이상세계의 원형의 토대가 시작되는 역사적 전환의 시대 인식을 내포한다. 따라서 남성 중심적인 아버지 호칭은 어머니가 은폐됨으로써, 이상세계의 온전한 부모로서의 신의 위상, 그 원형이 제대로 드러나지 못한다. 아버지와 어머니를 함께 아우르는 하늘부모님 호칭은 첫째, 온전한 부모로서의인격적인 신의 원형을 회복한 의미가 있다. 둘째, 남성과 대등한 관계로 회복된 여성의 가치와 위상을 말한다. 세계평화통일가정연합의 하늘부모님 호칭은 세계평화통일가정연합 신앙공동체에서 양성평등의 명확한 종교적 준거가 될 것으로 전망된다.

The title of God used by Family Federation for World Peace and Unification offers a glimpse into emerging new religious expressions. This research delves into the evolution from the Christian title of God within Family Federation for World Peace and Unification to its contemporary adaptation. The objective is to examine the deeper religious implications of this revised terminology. Family Federation for World Peace and Unification’s adoption of the title “Father” from Christianity since its inception stems from its understanding that the bond between God and humans mirrors that of a parent-child relationship. Yet, a predominantly masculine title of God can potentially misrepresent the essence of God within Christian theology, prompting the need for a fresh perspective. The shift by Family Federation for World Peace and Unification to refer to the God as the “Heavenly Parent” can’t be seen as isolated from concerns related to Christianity’s title of God. This change is directly tied to the religious context of “Foundation Day”. Foundation Day signifies a pivotal historical moment marking the commencement of the blueprint for a restored, ideal world. Hence, by focusing solely on the male-centric title of “Father”, the essence of the mother becomes overshadowed. This approach hinders the divine status of God as the holistic parent of the ideal world from being fully revealed in its true form. The title “Heavenly Parent”, which holistically represents both father and mother, carries a dual significance. First, it restores the archetype of the personal God as a holistic parental figure. Second, by acknowledging the restored worth of women who reflect God’s image, it underscores the elevated role and awareness of women as equal central figures in the ideal world. In the context of Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, the title “Heavenly Parent” is anticipated to serve as a definitive religious standard advocating for gender equality within the faith community.
