진천 평산 신씨 소장 고문서 조사의 내용과 성격 (The Contents and Character of Antique Documents Research owned by Pyeongsan Shin Family in Jincheon)

초록

진천 평산 신씨가 소장한 고문서와 전적 222점을 검토하였다. 교지 90점, 호적단자와 준호구 51점, 명문과 분재기 23점, 가승류 9점, 기타 고문서 21 점 등 고문서 194점을 확인하였고, 일기․문집․족보 등 28점의 전적도 조 사하였다.
교지는 15명이 모두 90점을 남겼는데, 신잡의 교지가 39점으로 가장 많고, 신계의 교지는 18점, 신대수의 교지는 13점 등이다. 특히 신잡은 하루에도 두 번씩 여러 차례 교지를 받았으며, 임진왜란이라는 전쟁 상황 및 후손들의 공신 책봉과 관련된 것으로 보인다.
이 가문의 호적단자와 준호구는 모두 51점이다. 14명의 主戶가 1669년부터 1891년까지 8대 220여 년 동안 작성한 것이며, 호적단자가 46점이고, 준호구가 5점이다. 이것은 충청도에서 한 가문의 자료 가운데 가장 많은 수이다. 이 자료는 호적의 작성과정과 기재양상은 물론 노비 소유 규모와 존재양상 등 사회경제적 기반을 이해할 수 있다.
명문과 분재기는 23점이 확인되었다. 18점의 명문은 노비 매매 8점, 토지 매매 7점, 토지와 노비의 동시 매매 1점, 노비쟁송 1점, 대지와 기와집 관련이 1점이다. 5점의 분재기는 가문의 재산 소유현황과 재산상속의 원리 및 그 과정을 이해할 수 있다.
가승류와 족보는 절첩인 세계와 요람 9점을 비롯하여 족보가 8점이 있고, 이 외의 고문서도 21점이 있다. 이 가운데 주목되는 것은 통문류 9점인데, 이것은 모두 신의양 부인인 청주 한씨가 순조 34년(1834)에 정려를 받는 과정을 보여주고 있다.
평산 신씨는 28점의 전적도 소장하고 있다. 신잡의 문집과 행적, 필적류, 사마방목, 과거시험용 경서 등이다. 1596년의 신잡 일기는 임진왜란 동안 기존의 경서 위에 행초서로 가필한 난중일기이다. 그리고 1546년 신화국의 생진과 입격자 명단인 사마방목도 있다.
평산 신씨 소장 고문서와 전적 222점을 조사하여 이들의 정치․사회․경제상을 어느 정도 짐작할 수 있었다. 앞으로 이러한 자료들과 함께 신홍주․신헌․신정희․신석희․신팔균 등 중요한 역할을 한 인물들 관련 자료를 조사하여 구체적으로 분석한다면, 가문의 위상은 물론 진천의 사회상과 정체성을 확인하는데 도움이 될 것이다.

영어초록

Pyeongsan Shin family in Jincheon has owned one hundred ninty four pieces antique documents and twenty eight books such as diaries, collection of personal works, family trees. Among them were ninty appointment certifications(敎旨), fifty one pieces household register and identification records, eighteen definite documents(明文) and five inheritance documents(分財記), nine brief family trees, etc.
Ninty appointment certifications from fifteen persons were handed down ; thirty nine appointment certifications for Shin Jab, eighteen for Shin Gye. Shin Jab had received thirty nine appointment certifications, even twice a day due to his meritorious deeds during Japanese invasion in 1592.
The household register, hojukdanja(戶籍單子) of Pyeongsan Shin are total 51 pieces and were recorded for two hundreds twenty years from 1669 to 1891 by fourteen persons. They are very helpful to understand their socioeconomic status and writing process of family trees, ownership of slave and slave’s resident ways.
This family had owned all 1,463 slaves, 371 resident slaves(25.4%), 742 outside-resident slaves(50.7%) and 349 escaped slaves(23.9%). It had also eighteen definite documents which are eight slave dealing documents, seven land trading documents and one slave lawsuit document. Five inheritance documents are good materials to investigate the own status of family property, ways of property inheritance and its process.
Besides, the family owns nine brief family trees, eight family trees and twenty one other old documents. Especially nine interchanged documents(通文類) were written in 1834, when the wife of Shin Ui Yang, Cheongju Han was honored to her filial duty.
This clan owns also twenty eight books. Shin Jab’s collection of works, record of his personal history and career achievement, Samabangmok(司馬榜目), confucian scripture for state’s examination etc. are about twenty pieces.
Especially the Shin Jab’s diary written at 1596 is remarkable for War Diary, which was written by hand on the scripture during the Japanese invasion.
One hundred ninty four pieces of archives and twenty eight books owned by Pyeongsan Shin clan are the important materials to inquire the political, social and economical situation of the last two hundreds years.
Furthermore, it will be necessary to study diverse materials that related with the persons, who played a significant role in the korean modern history as Shin Hong Ju, Shin Hyeon, and Shin Jeong Hee. Such a study and research will contribute to make clear their activities and also make sure the area Jincheon identity.
