About the relationship between Toyotomi regime and Tenno has accumulated a lot of research. This paper analyzes each step change in Toyotomi regime, and attempts to draw attention to the aspect of visit the palace(禁裏) and the right to pray.
First, Hideyoshi's visits were frequent from 1585 to 1590. At this time, Toyotomi regime had taken full advantage of the authority of the emperor. And using the authority of the Emperor taken down out of the other Sengoku daimyo. At this time, Hideyoshi was largely dependent on the authority of Emperor.
Second, since 1590 Hideyosi's position became even more firmly. So he need to use the authority of the Emperor was relatively lower. Toyotomi regime's power was further strengthened. But the Emperor's right to pray on the main shrine(二十二社) was still secure. This phenomenon was lasted until Hideyoshi died at least.
Third, this period corresponds to 1595-1598. Hideyoshi actively forced to once again take advantage of the authority of the Emperor. He chose a young Hideyori as his successor. Because Hideyori did not have legitimacy, Toyotomi regime were forced to rely on the authority of the Emperor.
