<신과 함께>의 검정, (비)물질과 지각의 상호작용 (Black in Along with the Gods, Interaction between (Non)Material and Perception)

초록

이 글은 물질의 본질로 규정한 아리스토텔레스의 색채론과 디지털이미지의 비물질적 특성으로서의 검정을 전제로, 한국영화 <신과 함께>의 서사를 주도하는 인물과 이미지를 구성하는 공간에 채워진 검정의 의미를 분석하였다. 삶과 죽음의 경계를 오가는 <신과 함께>에서 검정은 저승의 공간과 차사라는 인물을 구성한다. 한국영화에서 검정은 상상의 공간을 표상화하는 유용한 색이다. 이 글은 한국영화 <신과 함께>에 사용된 검정을 통해 동서양 색채문화의 차이를 살펴보고, 사회문화적 맥락에 따라 상호작용하는 의미를 분석하였다. 첫째, <신과 함께>의 인물과 공간이 검정이며, 검정은 다른 색상과의 관계에서 주도적 기능을 하며, (비)물질과 지각의 상호작용에 따라 다양한 방식으로 의미를 발생시킨다. 전통과 관습의 차원에서 검정은 죽음과 관련되며, 시각미학의 영역에서는 아무도 가보지 않은 세계, 공간을 표현하는 장치이다. 둘째, <신과 함께>에서 검정의 기능과 본질적 의미로 아리스토텔레스의 물질에 기반한 색채론을 인용할 수 있다. 그는 세계의 모든 색이 흑과 백의 혼합으로 생성된다고 이해한다. 나아가 괴테는 색채현상의 (비)물질성을 생리색, 물리색, 화학색으로 구분하며, 그 원리로 명과 암의 양극성을 제시한다. 이 같은 배경에서 <신과 함께>의 공간은 태초에 빛이 있기 전, 아무도 본 적 없는 검은 세계를 창조한다. 셋째, <신과 함께>에서 디지털시각특수효과의 색채는 괴테의 물리적 특성의 범주에 포함된다. 명료하고, 유동적이고, 임시적이고, 상상적이고, 허구적인 특성을 갖는 물리색의 검정은 전통과 관습의 상징 표현에서 나아가 비물질적 디지털이미지의 현실성을 극대화한다.

영어초록

On the premise of Aristotle's color theory defined as the essence of matter and black as a non-material characteristic of digital images, this paper analyzes the meaning of black filled in the space that constitutes the images and in the characters that lead the narrative of Along with the Gods. In this film which crosses the border between life and death, black composes the space in the world beyond and the character of the Grim Reaper. In Korean cinema, black is a useful color to represent the space of imagination. This paper examines the differences in color culture in the East and West through the black used in the Along with the Gods, and analyzes the meaning of interaction according to the sociocultural context. First, the character and space of Along with the Gods are black, and black plays a leading role in relation to other colors and generates meaning in various ways according to the interaction of (non) material and perception. Blackness is related to death in terms of tradition and custom, and in the field of visual aesthetics it is a device that expresses the world and space that no one has visited. Second, in Along with the Gods I can cite the theory of color based on Aristotle's material in its function and its essential meaning. He understands that all the colors of the world are possible with a mixture of black and white. Furthermore, Goethe classifies the (non) material properties of color phenomena into physiological, physical and chemical colors, and suggests the polarity of light and dark as a principle. In this background, the space of Along with the Gods creates a black world that no one has ever seen before there was light in the beginning. Third, in Along with the Gods, the colors of the digital visual special effects are included in the category of Goethe's physical characteristics. Physical color black, which is clear, fluid, temporary, imaginative, and fictional, represents the notion of immateriality of digital images, in addition to symbolic expressions of tradition and customs.
