신석기 - 청동기 전환과정에 대한 제문제 (The Overall Problems in the Changeover Period between the Neolithic Age and the Bronze Age)

초록

본 논문은 신석기-청동기 전환과정에 대한 제 논의와 신석기시대 이중구연토기 즉 율리식토기를 청동기문화의 계통적인 측면에서 인식하려는 시각에 대한 문제점과 향후 연구 방향을 검토한 것이다.
청동기시대 연구자들이 주장하는 신석기 말기의 율리식토기와 청동기시대 초기 이중구연토기, 거치문, 사선문 등의 문양 요소는 형태적으로 양자 간에 유사한 특징을 보이나 형식적 특징에서 연속성이 없고 연대 상에서도 차이가 크기 때문에 계통적으로 직접 연결하기에는 앞으로 충분한 논의가 필요하다.
그리고 말기 즐문토기와 관련이 있는 것으로 추정됐던 무각목 돌대문토기는 돌대문토기가 아닌 신석기후기의 변형 이중구연토기로 보는 것이 타당하며, 율리식 이중구연토기를 청동기시대 조기로, 돌대문토기를 신석기 말기 토기로 편입시키려는 의견은 재검토되어야 할 것이다.
신석기 말기에 정주 취락의 해체와 환경변화 등이 농경문화를 기반으로 하는 새로운 청동기문화의 유입 배경이 되었을 것으로 보는 생업경제적인 측면의 전환과정 연구는 실증적 자료가 부족하여 앞으로 구체적인 논의가 필요하다고 생각된다.
청동기–신석기 전환과정에 대한 해법을 찾기 위해서는 다양한 방법론적 접근을 포함하여 연구 대상을 토기 중심에서 벗어나 전환기의 도구 조성, 주거 형식, 유적의 입지, 생업 및 생계방식 등에 대한 종합적인 검토가 이루어져야 할 것이다.

영어초록

This paper discussed the overall problems in the changeover period between the Neolithic Age and the Bronze Age, reviewed problems of the view of considering Yulri-type Pottery to belong to the Bronze Age, and searched for ways of future research.
The element of pattern in Yulri-type Pottery of the late Neolithic Age and that of Pottery with double mouth rim, engrailed pattern, and diagonal pattern of the early Bronze Age, as researchers of the Bronze Age claim, have similar features in form but there are no continuity in formal features and they have a big chronological gap, so linking those two in one system requires more discussions.
Meanwhile, Mugakmok Doldaemun Pottery, which was presumed to be related to the late Comb-pattern Pottery, should be regarded as transformed type of Pottery with double mouth rim of the late Neolithic Age, not as Doldaemun Pottery, and the views of considering Yulri-type Pottery with double mouth rim to belong to the early Bronze Age and the Doldaemun Pottery to belong to the late Neolithic Age should be reconsidered.
The study of the transition process in the aspect of subsistence economy that views dissolution of settlement and environmental changes in the late Neolithic Age as the background of introducing the Bronze Age that is based on farming culture lacks empirical data and requires more discussions.
In order to find out background of the transition process between the Neolithic Age and the Bronze Age, the focus of the study should not be limited to pottery but expanded to include comprehensive reviews of composition of tools in the transition period, housing types, location of remains, and means of livelihood.
