신석기시대 적색토기의 양상과 의미 (Aspect and Meaning on the Red Painted Pottery in Korean Peninsula during the Neolithic period)

초록

본고는 한반도 신석기시대 적색토기를 집성하여 시기와 지역 별로 어떠한 양상을 보이는지 살펴보고, 용도와 의미에 대해 추론해 보기 위해 작성되었다.
적색토기를 발, 옹, 호로 기종 분류하고, 문양, 정면기법, 칠한 부위 등의 세부 속성으로 분류하여살펴보았다. 속성 간의 상관관계를 보면, 대부분 무문양과의 결합이 강하지만, 옹류는 두립문A와, 호류는 복합문과의 결합이 강한 양상이었다. 또한 발류와 옹류에서 마연기법과의 결합이 강하며, 호류는 물손질이 채택된 것이 많았다. 문양과 제 속성의 상관관계에서는 무문양토기와 압날문계열은 마연된 것이 많았으며, 융기문계열은 물손질한 것의 비율이 높은 것이 특징적이다.
시기 별 양상을 살펴보면 동해안 조기 전반에는 발류가 다수이며 무문양과 압날문만 확인된다.
정면기법 상에서는 마연이 압도적으로 많으며, 내외면을 칠한 것이 다수이다. 동해안 조기 후반에는 옹류의 비율이 높아지고 호류가 등장하며 첨저와 원저가 확인된다. 전반보다 압날문의 수가현저히 줄어들었으며, 정면기법 상에서 물손질의 비율이 크게 증가한다. 동해안 중기는 개체수가적지만 대체로 동해안 중기 토기의 특색을 가지고 있는 것으로 보인다.
남해안 조기는 무문양의 발류가 많이 확인되며, 물손질한 것이 확인되지 않는 것이 특징적이다.
후반에는 호류가 등장하며 복합문과 침선문의 수가 크게 늘어나고 정면기법이 다양해진다. 전기도 발류가 다수이나 호류의 수가 크게 증가하며, 무문양이 가장 많지만 조기와 비교하여 복합문의수가 크게 줄고 압날문과 침선문의 수가 늘어나 남해안 전기토기와 유사한 양상이다. 중기는 천발이 가장 많이 확인되는 시기이며, 무문양이 다수이다. 이는 기형 상에서는 남해안 중기토기와 유사하지만 문양에서는 차이를 보인다고 할 수 있다.
다음으로 동삼동, 수가리, 신암리, 죽변, 세죽유적에서 출토된 적색토기를 광학현미경과 SEM-EDS 를 통해 분석하였는데, 안료는 광물계의 산화제이철(Fe₂O₃)로 확인되었으며, 기존의 연구에서 확인된 중간층은 단면에서 관찰되지만, 질량농도 상에서는 태토층과 큰 차이를 보이지 않아, 신석기시대 적색토기에 의도적으로 중간층이 도포되었다고 보기는 어렵다고 생각한다.
이후 선사시대 의례를 통과의례, 생산의례, 생활의례로 구분하여 적색토기와의 관련성에 대해검토해 보았다. 그 중 수렵⋅채집⋅어로 관련 의례와 사냥한 대상에 대한 예우는 시기 별 출토 비율, 적색토기 출토 유적의 지역성, 동물이 새겨진 토기 등을 근거로 그 관련이 큰 것으로 생각된다.

Aspect and Meaning on the Red Painted Pottery in Korean Peninsula during the Neolithic period Park, Seong Jin (Department of Archaeology, Graduate School of Pusan National University) The main aim of the present study is to review the red painted pottery in the Neolithic period and to examine the pattern of the pottery during the Neolithic period.
The red painted pottery was categorized into bowls, pots, and jars. With regard to the properties, most of them were associated with unglazed, but pots were associated with Doorip pattern A and jars were associated with complex patterns. Also bowls and pots were strong in polishing and jars were strong in handling.
In the correlation between the pattern and the property, the unglazed and the impressed pattern were strong in polishing, and raised pattern has a high rate of hanmding. Looking at the patterns by period, there are many eruptions in the early part of the east coast, and only the motifs and the crests are confirmed. In the first half of early phase, there are many bowls, and It shows only unglazed and impressed pattern in the east coast, In the handling technique, polishing is overwhelming and many inner and outer surfaces are painted. In the second half of early phase, the ratio of pots increases, jars appear, and a round bottom is identified. In the frontal technique, polishing is overwhelming and many inner and outer surfaces are painted. The number of impressed pattern has decreased significantly from the first half, and the proportion of water-handling has increased significantly.
Middle phase of the east cost has less population, but seems to have the characteristics of pottery in middle phase.
In the early phase of south coast, there are a lot of unglazed bowls, and the absence of water -handling is characteristic. In second half, jars appears and the number of complexed and cordmarked pattern was more frequent than other patterns. Although the first phase has a large number of bowls, the number of jars increases greatly. Although the unglazed patterns are the most common, the number of complexed pattern has decreased significantly compared to the early period and the number of impressed and cord-marked pattern has increased, which is similar to that of early phase on the south coast. In the middle phase, there is the highest number of deep-bowls, and unglazed pattern.
In addition, the red painted pottery excavated from the Jukbyeon-ri, Sinam-ri, Sejuk, Dongsandong, Sugari was analyzed by an optical microscope and SEM-EDS. The pigments were identified as mineral oxidant ferrite (Fe₂O₃), and the middle layer identified in the previous study was visible on the cross-section. However, the mass concentration did not differ significantly from the base layer, so it is difficult to say that the middle layer was deliberately applied to red painted pottery of the Neolithic period.
Furthermore, the prehistoric ritual was divided into rite of passage, production, and life; the relevance of red pottery was also reviewed. Rite of production was considered to be related to red painted pottery, and it is thought that the ritual of hunting, gathering, fishing, and respecting of game were related to red painted pottery.
