아프리카 성인식의 교육적 기능과 공동체 형성의 관계성 연구 (A study on the relationship between the educational function and community formation of African coming-of-age ceremonies)

초록

본 연구는 아프리카 성인식의 교육적 기능과 성인식을 기반으로 형성된 공동체의 관계를 문헌연구를 통해 파악하고, 이를 케냐 사례 연구를 통해 검증하여 성인식의 교육적 기능과 배움 공동체와의 인과관계를 밝히는 목적으로 수행되었다. 이를 위해 아프리카 성인식의 교육적 역할과 기능을 통해 개인이 부족의 공동체 안에 귀속되고 공동체 의식과 체계를 형성하는 과정을 문헌고찰과 분석을 통해 확인하였다. 그리고 이러한 연구 주제를 현장 경험을 통해 연구자가 직접 관찰한 케냐 사례를 통해 관계성을 분석하기 위하여 심층 면담을 통해 자료를 수집하고 수집된 자료를 근거이론을 통해 분석하여 개념화하였다. 본 연구에서는 연구 목적과 주제에 적합한 연구 참여자를 선택하여 표집 하는 목적 표집 방법을 통해 2022년 7월 1일부터 14일까지 케냐 청소년 지도자 자격으로 한국을 방문한 8명의 케냐인들을 심층 면담하여 문헌연구 결과를 타당성 있게 검증하였다. 케냐에서 성인식을 경험한 연구 참여자들의 인터뷰 자료를 분석한 결과, 성인식 교육을 통한 사회적 배움 공동체 결성이 중심 현상으로 나타났다. 이는 부족의 전통, 가치, 문화의 계승과 발전을 위해 나타난 현상이었다. 선택 코딩을 통해 이론적 가설을 개념화하여 도식화한 결과, 부족의 지속가능한 발전은 성인식을 배움 공동체로서 구성하여 사회적 책임교육 공동체로서의 성인식의 역할과 기능을 구현하도록 인과관계가 나타났다. 또한, 성인식이 배움 공동체로 구성되고 유지될 수 있도록 성인식을 통해 성인이 된 개인의 평생학습화가 조건이 되는 것으로 분석하였다. 이러한 현상을 통해 배움 공동체로서의 성인식은 참여자를 위해 그룹을 형성하여 공동체 안으로 안내하고 이들에게 부족의 연장자와 장로 등의 모델을 제공하여 성인식 참여자들과의 의사소통을 매개로 교육을 진행하여 공동체 안에서의 배움을 가능케 하는 것으로 확인하였다. 또한, 성인식은 개인이 온전한 성인이자 공식적인 사회 구성원이 되는 전환점일 뿐만 아니라 종족과 부족 공동체 안에서 평생 학습의 장을 마련하여 집단 체제로 사회적 배움을 지속하도록 하는 역할과 기능을 담당하고 있는 것으로 나타났다.

영어초록

This study was conducted for the purpose of identifying the relationship between the educational function of African coming-of-age ceremony and the community formed based on coming-of-age ceremony. This relationship was identified through a literature review and verified through a Kenya case study. Therefore, the causal relationship between the educational function of the coming-of-age ceremony and the learning community was identified. Through a literature review and analysis of the educational role and function of African coming-of-age ceremonies, the process by which individuals belong to the tribal community and form a sense of community and system was identified. In addition, the relationship observed by the researcher was analyzed through an in-depth interview case study. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, and the collected data were analyzed and conceptualized through grounded theory. In this study, a purpose sampling method was used to select and sample research participants suitable for the research purpose and topic. From July 1 to 14, 2022, eight Kenyans who visited Korea as Kenyan youth leaders were interviewed in depth to verify the results of the literature study. As a result of analyzing the interview data of the research participants who experienced the coming-of-age ceremony in Kenya, the formation of a social learning community through coming-of-age ceremony education was found to be a central phenomenon. This was a phenomenon that appeared for the succession and development of tribal traditions, values, and culture. Theoretical hypotheses were conceptualized and schematized through selective coding. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the sustainable development of the tribe constituted a learning community through the coming-of-age ceremony and performed the role and function of the coming-of-age ceremony as a social responsibility education community. In addition, coming-of-age ceremony formed and maintained a learning community and became a condition for individual lifelong learning. The coming-of-age ceremony as a learning community formed a group and guided the individual into the community. And they were provided with models such as elders of the tribe. Also education was conducted through communication with the participants of the coming-of-age ceremony. So, it was confirmed that learning within the community is possible. The coming-of-age ceremony served as a turning point for individuals to become full-fledged adults and formal members of society. And it provided a place for lifelong learning within the tribal community for individuals. So, it was found that the coming-of-age ceremony was in charge of the role and function of continuing social learning as a group system.
