백낙청 비평에 나타난 ‘시적(詩的) 창조’의 의미- M. 하이데거와 T.S. 엘리어트의 수용 양상을 중심으로 - (The Study On ‘Poetic Creation’ of Paik Nak-chung’s criticism)

초록

이 논문은 백낙청 비평에 나타난 ‘시적 창조’(poetic creation)라는 개념에 주목했다. 이를 통해 이 논문은 백낙청 비평이 문학과 역사, 문학과 정치의 관계를 어떻게 고찰했는지 분석하려고 했다. 백낙청은 시민계급의 중요한 층위를 이루는 중산계층이 시민 혁명을 달성할 만큼의 역량을 지니지 못하고 있다고 보았다. 백낙청은 그 부재의 자리를 메울 수 있는 지점을 모색했다. ‘민중’이 그 지점의 한 축을 가리키고 있다면, 다른 축에는 ‘시적 창조’라는 개념이 위치하고 있었다. 백낙청의 ‘민족문학론’은 이 두 개의 지점을 포괄하는 담론 체계였다.
백낙청은 ‘시적 인간(poetic human)과 역사적 인간의 근원적 동질성’을 주장하며, 참여/ 순수, 예술 창작/정치적 행동을 구분하는 이분법에서 벗어나려 했다. 이러한 문제틀은 주체와 대상의 이분법에 기반을 둔 서구 형이상학을 근본적으로 비판한 하이데거의 이론에 기반을 두고 있다. 백낙청 비평은 ‘본질적 창조’라는 관점에서 역사와 시의 근원적 동일성을 주장했다. 백낙청에 따르면 ‘본질적인 창조’는 시, 행동, 사상 등의 어느 영역에서 이루어지든, ‘지식’과는 다른 차원에서 작동한다. 하이데거의 어법을 빌리면 ‘본질적 창조’는 은폐된 상태에 있던 진리를 드러나게 만드는 작업이며 역사의 근원적 변화를 만들어내는 동력인 것이다.
그러나 이러한 담론은 ‘시적 창조’의 다층적 가능성을 역사의식의 문제로 환원시켜 버릴 수 있다는 문제를 드러내고 있다. 유사한 문제는 백낙청이 ‘시적인 것’을 규정하는 과정에서도 발견된다. 백낙청은 ‘감수성의 분열(dissociation of sensibility)’에 대한 엘리어트의 견해를 수용하여 ‘시적(詩的)인 것’의 본질을 ‘통합된 감수성(the intergration of the sensitivity)’에서 찾으려 했다. 백낙청의 비평은 ‘시적 언어’가 만들어낼 수 있는 다층적 가능성을 탐색하지 못했다는 점, 그리고 분열된 감수성이 지니는 창조적 활력을 사유하지 못했다는 점에서 한계를 드러내고 있다.

영어초록

This thesis paid attention to the concept called ‘poetic creation’ appeared in the Paik Nak-chung’s criticism. Through the above this thesis was to analyze how the Paik Nak-chung’s criticism contemplated the relation between literature and history and the relation between literature and politics. Paik Nak-chung thought that the middle class which constitutes important class of bourgeoisie could not carry so much capability that they can achieve people´s revolution. Paik Nak-chung sought the point that can replace the place of the absence. If ‘the people’ indicates one axis of the point, at another axis the concept of ‘poetic creation’ was located.Paik Nak-chung’s national literary theory was the discourse system that included these two points.
Paik Nak-chung claimed the fundamental homogeneity of poetic human and historical human and was to get out of dichotomy that separates artistic creation and political action. Such problems are based on the Heidegger’s theory that basically criticized the western metaphysics based on the dichotomy of the subject and object. What is spotlighted this time is rightly the concept called ‘creation’. According to Paik Nak-chung, ‘essential creation’ works in the dimension different from that for ‘knowledge’ in whichever area of poem, action and idea etc. it is achieved. If we borrow the expression of Heidegger ‘essential creation’ is the job that reveals the truth which was in hidden condition, and is the power that makes fundamental change of history.
Paik Nak-chung’s criticism claimed the fundamental identity of history to poem in the viewpoint of the ‘essential creation’. However, such discourse has the problem that can return multilayer possibility of ‘poetic creation’ to the problem of historical consciousness. Such limitation is revealing itself even in the process where Paik Nak-chung defined ‘poetic things’. Paik Nak-chung accepted Eliot’s opinion on ‘dissociation of sensibility’ and was to find the essence of the ‘poetic thing’ in ‘the integration of the sensitivity’.
