초록

Merwin thinks that the relationship between human beings and nature is broken mainly because of anthropocentric thoughts, language and senses. He emphasizes the importance of ecological consideration and the restoration of the laws of nature as vital to our very survival. Nature is damaged by anthropocentric development and by using improper language which is influenced by our senses. As a better way of understanding nature, he suggests using the tactile and auditory senses more than the visual sense. Even though the visual sense has had absolute power throughout history, it does not provide complete and accurate information about the external world. Sometimes, the tactile sense is more accurate. Listening carefully to nature is also important to restore the relationship between human beings and nature. In this respect, it is a better idea to use tactile and auditory senses to understand nature and produce harmony and a peaceful coexistence.
