김남조 초기시의 심층생태학적 요소 분석 (Analysis of deep ecological elementsin Kim Nam-jo's early poetry)

초록

이 연구는 김남주의 시적 세계관과 심미적 특질을 생태학적 관점으로 배양하기 위한 시도로서 초기 중기 후기 등으로 유형화시키는 첫 번째 과제임을 밝힌다. 이는 근현대문학사를 가로지르는 김남주의 초기 시 의식을 심층 생태주의로 파악하고 현대시문학사의 지형과 흐름을 구체적으로 모색하기 위한 목적으로 진행되었다. 한국현대시문학사에서 대표적인 여성 시인이라고 할 수 있는 김남조는 1950년 연합신문에 등단한 이래 1953년 첫 시집 『목숨』을 출판하면서 시단에 정착했다. 김남조의 초기시편에는 인간성과 생명력을 표현하는 자연 친화적인 상상력과 심층생태주의적 감수성이 엿보인다.
한국전쟁 체험세대인 김남조는 전쟁으로 인해 훼손된 자연을 목격하고 인간의 이기가 지구에 가하는 폭력성에 대해 인식하게 된다. 전쟁이라는 물리적 폭력은 생태계 교란과 뒤얽힘을 발생시키고 이로 인해 촉발된 폐해가 지구를 위태롭게 만들었다. 전쟁이 타자에 대한 배척이라는 자기중심주의와 자연과 인간을 분리한 이원론적 세계관에서 비롯되었다는 시적 발상에서 김남조 시인의 심층생태학적 사유가 드러난다.
더 나아가 김남조는 자연과 인간을 분리하지 않고 지구를 하나의 거대한 ‘전체적 場(total field)’으로 인식하고, 생태지혜(ecosophy)를 발현하여 주체를 포괄적인 자기(self)로 만든다. 자연과 인간을 하나로 귀결시키는 일원론적 사고에는 전방위 이미지가 표출되며 여기에는 심층적으로 김남조 시인의 생명 존중 의식이 반영된 것으로 보인다. 이는 모든 생명체가 ‘하나’라는 복잡성을 수용한 성과이며, 그의 시 세계에서는 자연을 성스럽게 바라보거나 존중하는 시적 이미지로 형상화된다.
또 김남조의 시에서 시적 주체는 유기체로서의 자연물을 부단히 소환하고 그와 교감하면서 영적 성장을 이루어낸다. 이는 자연을 통해 인간이 지닌 영성을 정화하여 생태지혜가 확장된 결과라 할 수 있다. 이처럼 주체가 시 속에서 ‘대자아-실현’을 성취하고 항상성과 다양성을 유지하고자 하는 태도에서 심층생태주의적 면모를 발견하게 된다. 인간과 자연이 평등한 관계로 교감하고 동일화 과정을 거치며 소통하는 시적 행위에서 심층생태주의적 양상을 파악할 수 있는 것이다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the deep ecological characteristics revealed in Kim Nam-jo's early poetry. Kim Nam-jo, who can be said to be a representative female poet in the history of modern Korean poetry, debuted in Yonhap Newspaper in 1950 and settled down in the poetry world with the publication of her first poetry collection, 『Life』 in 1953. Kim Nam-jo's early poems show nature-friendly imagination and deep ecological sensibility that express humanity and vitality.
Kim Nam-jo, who debuted in the 1950s, witnessed nature damaged by war and became aware of the violence inflicted on the earth by human selfishness. The physical violence of war caused ecological disturbance and entanglement, and the resulting harm put the Earth in jeopardy. Poet Kim Nam-jo's deep ecological thinking can be seen in the poetic idea that war originates from egocentrism of exclusion of others and a dualistic worldview that separates nature and humans.
Furthermore, Kim Nam-jo does not separate nature and humans, but recognizes the Earth as one huge ‘total field’, and expresses ecological wisdom (ecosophy) to make the subject a comprehensive self. An omnidirectional image is expressed in the monistic thinking that concludes nature and humans as one, and this seems to fundamentally reflect poet Kim Nam-jo's sense of respect for life. This is the result of accepting the complexity of all living things being ‘one’, and in his poetic world, it is embodied in a poetic image that views or respects nature as sacred.
Also, in Kim Nam-jo's poetry, the poetic subject constantly summons organic natural objects and communicates with them to achieve spiritual growth. This can be said to be the result of expanding ecological wisdom by purifying human spirituality through nature. In this way, a deep ecological aspect is discovered in the subject's attitude of achieving ‘larger self- realization’ and maintaining homeostasis and diversity in the poem. Deep ecological aspects can be grasped through poetic acts in which humans and nature interact and communicate in an equal relationship.
Kim Nam-jo's poetry, which promotes coexistence with nature, requires intensive discussion in the future as it reveals ecological elements in multiple aspects. In that respect, it is expected that this paper, which analyzes the deep ecological elements revealed in Kim Nam-jo's poetry, will serve as a catalyst for the expansion of research on ecologicalism in Kim Nam-jo's poetry.
