이한직의 시인식과 지성주의의 변화 (Han-jik Lee's Cognition about Poetry and Change of Intellectualism)

초록

이 글은 이한직의 시인식의 변모 과정을 살핌으로써 한국 모더니즘 시사에서 ‘지성’의 의미가 변환되는 과정을 고찰하고자한다. 1930년대 후반 문장에서 추천을 받아 문단에 나온 이한직은 ‘정당한 판단과 총명한 통찰과 왕성한 의욕’을 겸비한 지성을 추구하였다. 그는 시의 지성을 질서와 종합의 세계를 그려낼 수 있는 전인격적 능력으로 이해했다. 이는 시적 주체의 관조적 태도로 이어진다. 이러한 시적 사고는 지성을 ‘사상성’으로 이해하고, 시를 조화와 통합의 세계를 창조함으로써 현대의 분열상을 극복하고자 했던 1950년대 전통 서정파의 관점과 유사한 것이었다. 이러한 시적 지향은 그가 <후반기>동인에서 이내 탈퇴하게 되는 원인이 되었다. 하지만 1950년대 한국의 역사현실의 국면에서 이한직은 절대적 세계와 시적 주체의 생명성을 관조적으로 바라보고 미학적으로 시를 구축하고자 했던 데서 벗어난다. 이한직은 1950년대 후반에 들면서 세계와 주체들 간의 현실 관계에 대하여 성찰하는 지성(비평성)을 강조하는 글들을 발표하고, 4.19혁명 직후 시쓰기에서 이를 실천한다.

영어초록

This study intends to take a close look at how the meaning of ‘intelligence' changed in the history of Korean modernist poems by ex- amining how the cognition about poetry of Han-jik Lee changed. Lee made his debut as a poet through the recommendation of the literary magazine, 『Munjang』, in the late 1930's, and he had a strong sense of identity as a modernist. He pursued the intelligence combined with ‘just judgment, sagacious insight, and passionate will.’ He understood the intelligence of poetry as the whole-personal ability to depict the world of order and integration. This led to the contemplative attitude of the poetic subject. This type of poetic thinking is similar to the traditional lyricist point of view in the 1950's where the poetry aimed to understand intelligence as ‘ideology' and overcome the division in the modern times by creating the world of harmony and integration. Such a poetic orientation became the reason he withdrew from the coterie, <Hubangi>.
However, he breaks from the trend of contemplatively examining the vitality of absolute world and poetic subject and constructing the poem aesthetically considering the historical reality of Korea in the 1950's. The poetic subject which accepts and endures futility as it is in the world of barrenness and insensateness appear in Lee's poems after the Korean War. Lee published the writings that emphasize the intelligence (criticism) which introspects the realistic relationship between the world and the subject in the late 1950's and practiced them in his poems after the April 19 Revolution. This shows the transition from contemplative intelligence to reflective intelligence in the history of modernist poems of Korea.
