초록

시나 그림은 모두 인간의 인식작용이 사물에 감동하여 일어나는 흥취의 표현인데, 시는 그것을 언어로 그리는 것이고 그림은 그것을 붓으로 그리는 것이다. 한 폭의 그림이 그저 눈을 즐겁게 하는 것， 단지 시각적인 아름다움을 전해 주는 일 뿐이라면, 그림의 존재 이유와 의미는 매우 하찮은 것이 되고 말 것이다. 우리가 때때로 한 장의 어둡거나 눈부신， 또는 슬프거나 아름다운 그림 앞에서 어떤 내밀한 몽상의 황홀경에 빠져드는 것은 그것이 색채의 구성으로 이루어진 대상만이 아니기 때문이다. 전통적인 동양회화에 있어서 시(詩)와 화(畵)는 분리되지 않는다. 이러한 시와 그림의 합일은 예술가들이 눈에 비치는 것 이상을 표현하고자하는 욕구와도 부합한다. 동양과 서양은 풍토와 사상 등의 서로 다른 영향으로, 자연관의 근본에 있어서도 많은 차이를 보인다. 동양화는 지(紙)·필(筆)·묵(墨)의 특이성으로 ‘서화일치(書畵一致)’, 또는 ‘시화일치(詩畵一致)’라고 하는 독특한 개념이 생기기 시작하면서 서양미술을 봐왔던 미적 기준으로 동양미술을 이해하기란 불가능하다. 특히 소식이 8세기, 왕유의 그림을 평하면서 ‘시 속에 그림이 있고, 그림 속에 시가 있다.(시중유화 화중유시, 詩中有畵 畵中有詩 )’라고 한 것은 이후 동양화의 빼 놓을 수 없는 특징이 된다. 이 연구의 목적은 화중유시의 명제를 시작으로 시와 회화의 공통성을 연구하고, 시간과 공간을 초월하여 그들이 추구하는 경계와 시적 회화를 가능하게 하는 다양한 시정(詩情)들을 분석함으로써 시적인 회화의 정당성과 그 의미를 알아보는 데 있다. 또한 이 화중유시(畵中有詩)의 전통이 이 시대의 새로운 회화적 방법론으로 유효하며 시인이나 화가는 모두 마음속의 시정을 표현하는 동일한 예술가임을 확인하고자 한다.

영어초록

Both the poetry and the painting are the expression of excited feelings arisen when the cognition of humans is moved by objects. Poems express those feelings in words whereas paintings express them with brushes. If a painting only tries to please eyes or only tries to deliver visual beauty, then the reason for and the meaning of its existence would be insignificant. The reason why we become lost in the ecstasy of inner fantasy in front of a sad or beautiful painting is not because it is an object composed of colors. In traditional oriental paintings, poetry and painting are not separated. The consolidation of poetry and painting coincides with the desire to express beyond what the artist sees. Due to the different influences of different nature and thoughts, the East and the West show a lot of differences in their views of nature. The oriental painting is based on the unique concept of ‘Calligraphy and painting being one’ or ‘Poetry and painting being one’ due to the special characteristics of paper, brush, and ink. Therefore, it is impossible to understand the Eastern art using the aesthetic standards for the Western art. In 8th century, while appraising Wang Wei’s painting, Su Shi said, “The painting is inside the poem and the poem is inside the painting,” which has been one of the unique characteristics of oriental painting ever since. The purpose of this study is to find the common characteristics of poetry and painting starting with the thesis of “the painting inside the poem and the poem inside the painting,” and the justification and meaning of poetic painting by analyzing the boundaries the poetry and the painting pursue beyond time and space and various poetic sentiments that enable the poetic painting. In addition, this author tries to clarify that the tradition of the poem inside the painting is still valid as new painting methodology for this age and it can be recreated.
