초록

장정일은 1980년대 후반, 시대의식을 구체화 하며 시적 대상의 파괴와 해체를 통해 새로운 시적 전략을 모색하였다. 장정일의 네 번째 시집『서울에서 보낸 3주일』은 1980년대를 마감하며 자신 및 글쓰기에 대한 성찰을 형상화해 낸 시집으로 장정일의 자기반영적 시세계를 고찰하는데 유의미하다.
평론「혹성 탈출: 80년대 젊은 시인들에게 나타나는 낭만주의 열망」에서 장정일은 1980년대 젊은 시인들이 “삶을 거대한 고문장으로 옳게 파악하기는 하였으나, 교신불능→진공관 속에서→성의 도피처→시한폭탄 등의 문제의 질곡과 맞서 부딪치면서 그러한 문제를 끝내 해결하지 못한 채 훌쩍 혹성탈출로 사라지는 모습”인 낭만주의적 도피의 한계를 언급한다. 그러나 이와 동시에 이러한 지적에서 장정일이 1980년대 젊은 시인들의 시에 대한 대타 의식이 분명함을 주목할 수 있다.
1980년대 시인들이 갖고 있던 체제 방임 또는 방조에 대한 무거운 원조 의식이나 이데올로기의 억압성 등이 남아있기는 하지만 장정일은 남다른 시인의 서정으로 이 시대를 또 달리 표현해내었다. 특히 시집『서울에서 보낸 3주일』에서 장정일은 자신이 언급한 문제적 특성을 담아내고 있는 동시에 장정일만의 세계관으로 그러한 문제적 특성을 극복해내고 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 또한 현재의 허무를 심층적으로 밝히는 데 주력하며 그런 존재 상태를 내밀히 탐색하는 것이 아니라 1980년대 시인들이 현상의 새로움에 무작정 함몰되어간다는 사실에 주목한다.
1980년대 시인들에게 있어 ‘도시’는 불신과 타락으로 점철된 착취의 삶을 낳는 유토피아로 표상된다. 확실한 부재와 상실의, 끝없는 중얼거림의 상품화된 도시는 당시 유일한 텍스트가 되었다. 도시시에 언급되는 재즈와 팝송, 온갖 포르노물, 미국의 대중소설과 영화 등은 일탈과 자유의 상징적 표현인 것이다. 장정일은 욕망의 대상이었던 도시 서울이 전망 부재임을 자각하게 되었을 때, 그것이 가능성 없는 판타지였음을 인식하고 또 다른 판타지였던 성을 통해 현실적 욕망을 충족하고자 하였다.
1980년대 시인들이 유토피아를 꿈꾸고 열망하는 만큼 그 배후에 숨겨진 현재 세계의 고통은 비례할 수밖에 없기에, 장정일은 시인들의 의식 세계를 낭만주의적 도피 열망으로 규정하고 문제 해결을 모색하고자 한다. 해결할 수 있는 부분과 해결할 수 없는 부분은 구별되어야 하기에 ‘낭만주의적 혹성 탈출’과 도피가 아닌 ‘신성한 것의 발견’은 구별되어야 할 것을 강조한다. 이는 장정일 스스로 자신의 세계에 나름의 철저성을 가지고 응전하고 있으며 단순한 자기부정으로 끝나는 것이 아니라 자유주의에 대한 본질적인 탐구를 통해 구속받지 않는 자유의 실천을 감행하려는 의지의 표명인 것이다.

As Jang Jeong-il's fourth collection of poems titled 『Three Weeks of Having Been Spent in Seoul』 is a book of poetry, which embodied the introspection on himself and writing with finishing the 1980s, it is significant in considering the self-reflexive poetic world in Jang Jeong-il who specified consciousness amidst a relationship with the whole society in the late 1980s and who had sought a new poetic strategy through destroying and de-constructing what is poetic before it.
In a critique titled 「Planet of the Apes: Romantic longings of appearing in young poets of the 1980s」, Jang Jeong-il is mentioning a limitation of romantic escape in young poets of the 1980s as "the image of lightly vanishing into the Planet of the Apes with failing to finally solve such problem while knocking against the problematic fetters such as out of communication→in the middle of tube→refuge of sex→time bomb even if having correctly grasped life as a huge torture place." But it may pay attention to what Jang Jeong-il is clarifying the sense of a pinch hitter on poetry in young poets of the 1980s through pointing out the limitation.
Even though being slightly left the heaviness of sin consciousness as saying of having neglected or connived a system of being tinged with guilt, or the suppression of ideology that the poets in the 1980s have, Jang Jeong-il expresses this period with the poet's clearly unusual lyricism. That is because of being able to confirm that the collection of poetry titled 『Three Weeks of Having Been Spent in Seoul』 is overcoming such problematic characteristic with Jang Jeong-il's unique world view as well as particularly containing problematic feature that Jang Jeong-il himself mentioned. Also, a fact is being noted that the poets in the 1980s proceed with sinking thoughtlessly in novelty of phenomenon, not what secretly explores such presence state with concentrating on deeply clarifying the vain of the present.
As for poets in the 1980s, 'city' is represented as utopia of having produced life of exploitation that is dotted with distrust and corruption. The commercialized city in definite absence & loss, and limitless mumbling became the sole text in those days. Jazz & pop song, all kinds of pornographies, and America's popular novels & movies, which are mentioned as Urban poem, is symbolic expression of deviation and freedom. Jang Jeong-il came to know that it was fantasy without the possibility when having come to recognize the reality that the city Seoul, which had become the subject of desire, is the absence of prospect, thereby having aimed to satisfy a realistic desire through sex, which had been another fantasy.
As much as the poets in the 1980s dream of and yearn for utopia, the pain of the present world, which is hidden behind it, cannot be proportional. Thus, Jang Jeong-il aims to seek problem-solving with prescribing the poets' world of consciousness as the longing for romantic escape. A section available for solution and a part unavailable for solution should be distinguished. Hence, the ‘planet of the apes based on romanticism’ and the ‘discovery of sacred things,’ not escape, are emphasized the necessity of being differentiated. This is the expression of a will to carry out the practice of unconstrained freedom through essential exploration on liberalism, not what ends simply in self-denial, while Jang Jeong-il himself is accepting battle in his world with own thoroughness.
