김달진 시의 장소성 연구 (Study of Placeness in Kim Dal-jin’s Poems)

초록

일제 강점기인 1930-40년대에 활발한 작품 발표를 통해 한국현대시문학사의 영역을 넓혔던 월하 김달진의 시는 그의 생애사적 궤적에 의해 주로 불교적 세계관과 무위자연의 사상을 중심으로 연구되어 왔다. 따라서 이 논문은 김달진 시에 대한 다양한 방법론이나 주제론 및 관점이 적용된 논의가 필요하다는 문제의식에서 출발했고, 그동안 김달진 시 연구에서 본격 탐구되지 않았던 장소성의 특징과 의미를 고찰하면서 그와 관련된 김달진의 시적 세계관과 상상력을 새롭게 들여다보았다.
김달진 시에서 장소의 양상은 박제된 일상성의 장소, 고향 공간과 ‘다른 공간’의 장소, 불교적 미의식의 장소로 구분되었다. 박제된 일상성의 장소는 더 넓은 세계로 나아가지 못하고 있는 자의식의 방황과 생존의 현실이 부딪치며 생성되는 존재론적 고독이 깃든 곳임을 확인할 수 있었다. 고향 공간과 ‘다른 공간’의 장소는 사향시(思鄕詩)와 재만시편(在滿詩篇)을 중심으로 푸코의 헤테로토피아 개념을 적용해 고찰했다. ‘나’라는 존재의 근원을 규정하는 정체성과 일제 강점기 재만조선시인의 의식세계를 살펴볼 수 있었다. 불교적 미의식의 장소에서는 불교적 소재의 주관적 묘사나 기법에 기대지 않고 장소성을 통해 자신만의 불교적 형이상학을 시적 사유와 상상력으로 내면화하고 심화하면서 불교시학을 선보이고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 승려들의 생활상이나 불교의례를 대입하여 장소가 갖는 의미를 고찰할 것도 선구자들과 차이를 보이는 관점이다.
김달진 시는 장소를 통해 시적 의미가 구현되고 긴장이 발생하는 경우가 많이 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 구체적 지명이나 공간에 직접 발을 디딤으로써 장소적 특질을 보여주는 경우도 있었고, 특정한 감정과 의미가 발생하는 위치나 곳 등의 장소로 그 모습을 드러내는 경우도 있었다. 이들 장소에 관한 시는 화자의 시선을 파악할 수 있는 요체로 김달진 시에 대한 새로운 관점의 근거가 되었다.

영어초록

Weolha Kim Dal-jin’s poems that broadened the domain of the history of Korean contemporary poetry through the active presentation of works in the 1930s-40s in the Japanese colonial era have mainly been investigated centering around the Buddhist worldview and inactive nature by his biographical trajectory. Thus, this study started from the awareness of a problem that it would be necessary to have discussions applying various methodologies, themes, and perspectives on Kim Dal-jin’s poems and looked into Kim Dal-jin’s poetic worldview and imagination related to them, newly, discussing the characteristics and meaning of placeness, which have not been explored in earnest in the studies of Kim Dal-jin’s poems.
The aspects of places in Kim Dal-jin’s poems were divided into a place of stuffed everydayness, a place of ‘space different’ from hometown space, and a place in the Buddhist aesthetic sense. It was found that the place of stuffed everydayness was a place where existential isolation generated as wandering in self-consciousness that could not go to a wider world and the reality of survival ran into each other dwelt in. The place of ‘space different’ from hometown space was discussed by applying Michel Foucault’s concept of heterotopia centering around his homesick poems and poems in the period of Manchuria. It was possible to examine the identity that defined the source of the being of ‘me’ and the world of the consciousness of a Joseon poet in Manchuria during Japanese colonial rule. For the place in the Buddhist aesthetic sense, it was found that he showed Buddhist poetics while internalizing and deepening his own Buddhist metaphysics into poetic thinking and imagination through placeness, not relying on subjective descriptions or techniques of Buddhist subject matters. There is another difference from the pioneers in that he discussed the meaning of place by substituting that by the life of the monks or Buddhist rituals.
It was found that in Kim Dal-jin’s poems, a place often embodied poetic meanings and created tensions. Sometimes, he showed the characters of place by stepping directly on a specific place name or space and sometimes, revealed its looks with a place like the position or location where specific emotions and meanings took place. Poetry on the place became the foundation for a new perspective on Kim Dal-jin’s poems as a key to an understanding of the speaker’s gaze.
