초록

This study purposed to examine the poetic world of Park Jeong‐man,who is considered one of poets exhibiting a unique poetic world in the history of Korean contemporary poetry, through analyzing his inner consciousness. The discussion of this study is summarized as follows.
Park Jeong‐man’s inner consciousness is based on the sense of nihil and an attitude of pessimistic reflection on life. The sense and reflective attitude try to transcend the tragic real world by assuming the attitude of accepting the pessimistic realities as a fate rather than overcoming the despairing and painful realities actively.
His inner consciousness seems to be associated with the absence of his mother. His consciousness of the absence of his mother, which is widespread throughout his works, is also closely connected to the consciousness of recurrence to hometown, the resting place of mind, and is an exit from pains in the negative real world.
Park Jeong‐man’s inner consciousness as such is also inseparably linked to the historical situations of his days. After he was tortured cruelly in connection to Han Soo‐san’s indictment for his writings, he suffers from pains but tries to repress his anger. Nevertheless, his inside is gradually dominated by hatred against violence and peopleoriented attitude.
Based on the inner consciousness, Park Jeong‐man’s poetic world is deeply imbued with fear of death as well as fervent desire to overcome the fear. In his poems, death is a dreadful object but, at the same time,a universe reaching eternal salvation that gives perfect freedom from the impoverished real world.
