허난설헌 시 자료의 재검토 (Reconsideration on the Materials of Heo Nanseolheon’s Poems)

초록

이 글은 허난설헌 시 자료에 대한 기본적인 합의와 재검증의 필요성을 인식하고, 특히 과거와 현재의 비평이 적어도 동일한 대상을 통해 연구될 수 있도록 여러 문헌에 산재한 허난설헌의 시들을 모으고 검토한 것이다.
허난설헌 시 연구를 위한 기본 자료의 인지와 합의는 필수적이지만, 지금까지 문집 간 이본 대비만 시도되었고, 새로운 자료의 발굴과 소개에만 치중된 경향이 있다. 따라서 본고에서는 문집 『난설헌시』의 간행 전후로 허난설헌의 시를 수록하고 있는 문헌을 모두 살펴서, 국내 문헌을 중심으로 허난설헌 시 자료의 유전 실상을 알아보았다.
국내 문헌에 수록된 허난설헌의 시들은 모두 같은 모습으로 전해지고 있었는데, 이를 통해 허난설헌의 시가 최초로 기록된 하나의 저본을 기반으로 국내 문헌에 정확하게 유전되고 수용된 상황을 확인할 수 있었다. 그리고 문집에는 없지만 국내 문헌에서 허난설헌의 시로 알려지고 논의되었던 목록들도 다시 점검하여, 허난설헌 시인지 아닌지의 여부를 재고하여 정리하였다.
이 과정에서 조선 중후기 주요 시선집에 허난설헌의 시가 다수 수록된 정황을 알 수 있었고, 주로 선발된 시의 목록과 모습도 확인하면서 허난설헌이 조선을 대표하는 시인으로 인정받은 사실도 재확인하였다. 허난설헌의 시는 시화나 잡록에서도 직접적인 비평 대상이 되었다. 따라서 여러 문헌에 기록된 시의 목록과 모습, 비평의 맥락을 함께 살펴서 허난설헌을 둘러싼 담론이 특정 시와 어떻게 관계를 맺고 있는지를 정리해보았다.
본고에서 검토했던 시 자료의 결과는 모두 [부록]의 표로 제시되었다. 문집과 문집 밖의 시까지 모두 밝혀서 허난설헌 시의 전체 목록을 명시하였고, 각 시마다 기록된 문헌과 비평의 맥락을 밝혀서 허난설헌 시의 전체적인 모습과 아울러 주요 비평 대상이 된 시들을 확인할 수 있도록 하였다.

영어초록

Evaluation on poet Heo Nanseolheon (許蘭雪軒, 1563～1589) has been discussed largely in two ways. One is the compliment to say she was the best poet out of women in Chosun, and the other is the controversy that most of her poems were from plagiarism. The two-way discourses on Heo Nanseolheon, however, are problematic because they are not grounded on the same materials.
Heo Nanseolheon’s poems have been transmitted in its entirety in a collection of works, 『Nanseolheon Poems (蘭雪軒詩)』, which was edited and published by her little brother, Heo Gyun (許筠, 1569～1618), and after the death of Heo Gyun, the second edition following the original of the initial edition exactly was issued and widely read. In addition, before issuing the collection of works, Heo Nanseolheon’s poems were contained in the selections of poems or talks on poetry, too, which Heo Gyun either compiled or involved himself in, and several literatures compiled by other literary persons in Chosun than Heo Gyun include many poems of hers as well.
Parts of Heo Nanseolheon’s poems have been transmitted in literatures produced not just in Korea but in China, too. Yet, unlike in Korean literatures, either titles or verses are sometimes changed, or in some cases, other literary persons’ poems are included as Heo Nanseolheon’s, which requires some attention. Heo Nanseolheon’s poems positioned in a number of Chinese literatures are still useful to examine interest in and response to a female poet of Chosun; however, the poems themselves reveal ultimate limitations because they are secondary materials that have been recorded and transmitted in another country.
Accordingly, this study focuses on the situation that the list of poems to study Heo Nanseolheon’s poems has not been agreed yet and research has been performed targeting different materials and attempts to rearrange and verify the materials of Heo Nanseolheon ‘s poems. First of all, this author has looked into the list and aspects of Heo Nanseolheon’s poems that had been known before publishing the collection of works, arranged her poems written in several literatures even after issuing the collection of works, and investigated the real aspects of her poems. Through analysis on the list and contents of Heo Nanseolheon’s poems dealt with in this study, it will be possible to discuss follow-up research on Heo Nanseolheon more authentically afterwards.
