中唐 鮑溶의 詩 (A Study of Bao Rong’s Poetry in the Mid-Tang)

초록

Bao Rong (zi, De-yuan) was a poet of the Mid-Tang. It’s impossible to exactly find out the date of his birth and death, and it is supposed that he was born in around 748 and died in around 821 by some records. Bao passed the jin-shi examination in 809. Before and after his passing the examination, he lived in retreat or engaged upon his restless troubles, seeking the social connections necessary to gain a public recognition and high rank. But he could not accomplish his desire in his life, and the sorrow of his own personal situation had made a great influence on his writing poems.
There are 199 poems and 6 verses in Bao Rong’s poetry. This thesis aims for analyzing the themes of his poetry.
His prominent theme expressed in his poems is the sorrow of the frailty of life.
The next comes his homesickness in the wake of the long residence in the foreign land, followed by self-scorn and grief about his hard luck.
In addition, he pleaded the sovereign to have a good government through the medium of Poem on History, and expressed his interest in common people.
I find the general characteristics of his poems in his free style and melancholy sentiment due to various forms and gloomy contents. It is considered that this distinction of his poetical style gave his poetry its place in the history of the Mid-Tang.
