김지하 시에 나타난 ‘틈’사상의 시학적 원리와 시적 현현(顯現) (The poetic principle and incarnation of ‘Teum’thought in the poetry of Kim Ji-ha)

초록

시에 있어서 형식이란 단순히 형식 차원에서 끝나는 것이 아니고, 곧바로 시정신과 직결된다는 것은 주지의 사실이다. 본고에서는 김지하가 생명 사상을 전개시키는 한 축으로 상정했던 ‘틈’ 사상과 이 ‘틈’ 사상의 시적 형식화를 통해 시 형식과 생명에 관한 사유의 교호작용이 시적 현현으로 여하히 드러나는지 살펴보고자 한다. 그가 늘 주장했던 것처럼 시는 형식과 내용이 따로 존재하는 것이 아니라면, 이 시기에 중점적으로 발표했던 여백 중심의 시편들은 그가 천착했던 생명 사상의 시적 외장(外裝)일 것이다. 따라서 이 시기의 시편들에 대한 검토는 김지하가 늘 비판의 대상으로 삼았던 생명문학의 근본 원리가 무엇으로부터 비롯되어야 하는 것인가에 대한 김지하 생명문학의 본질과 문법에 대한 검토가 될 것이다.
틈과 관련한 그의 시론은 대체로 세 가지 차원에서 그의 생명 사상과 교호하고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 첫째는 언어에 틈과 여백을 줌으로써 중심을 벗어난다는 것, 즉 ‘분산과 소방(疏放)’의 양식을 추구하는 것인데, 이는 서정시에서 언어를 절약하고 엉성하게 벌려놓음으로써 그 틈에 우주적 신기(神氣)가 통하고 여백을 울리도록 함으로써 언어의 꽉 찬 그물로부터 이탈할 수 있는 가능성을 얻게 된다는 것이다. 두 번째 차원으로는 생명의 근원은 바로 모순과 역(易)인데, 이는 ‘활동하는 무(無)’로 인해 생명이 운동과 변화를 거듭한다는 것을 뜻한다. 김지하는 이같은 생명의 운동과정을 문학적 차원에서는 ‘활동하는 무(無)’가 텍스트에 개입함으로써 엇과 틈이 만들어지고, 행갈이는 이 엇과 틈에 의해 만들어지는데, 이는 생명의 근원인 모순과 역의 상보 원리에 다름 아니라고 본다. 세 번째 차원은 김지하가 생명문학의 시학적 원리와 관련하여 주장한 ‘말의 자발적 가난(말의 비움)’에서 살펴볼 수 있다. ‘없음’에 기초하는 것이 생명의 본질이라면 생명 문학은 그 형식에 있어서도 이미지의 풍요와 언어의 사치를 경계하고 무(無), 공(空), 허(虛), 자유에 토대를 둔 ‘말의 자발적 가난’이라는 미학적 규범을 필요로 한다는 것이다.
이상 세 가지 차원에서 ‘틈’을 통한 여백 중심의 시편이 김지하의 생명 사상과 어떠한 교호작용을 통해 시적 형식화를 이루고 있는지 살펴볼 것이며, 이것이 어떻게 생명시의 문법을 이루고 있는지 밝혀보고자 한다.

영어초록

It is a well-known fact that form in a poem is directly connected to the poetic spirit, not stopping at being a form itself. This study focuses on the thoughtof ‘Teum (gap)’ that Kim Ji-ha postulated as an axis to develop his life thought , and it also examines how the interaction of poetic form and the thoughts on life is revealed as a poetic incarnation through poetic formalization of 'Teum' thought . If form and content do not exist separately in a poem as he has insisted, those poems centering on margin that were published around then would be the poetic paintwork for the life thoughthe always pursued. Therefore, the examination of his poems published then would become the examination on the essence and grammar of Kim Ji-ha’s life literature that was always targeted for criticism by Kim Ji-ha himself.
His poetic theory related to 'Teum' can be said to be reciprocal with his life thought approximately in three dimensions: Firstly, by giving the language a gap and some margins, the poem escapes the center; in other words, his poetry pursues the style of 'dispersion and dissipation', which means that by economizing words and spreading them around, there comes in a cosmic spirituality that resonates in the margins, obtaining the possibility of making excursions from the fully interwoven net of language. Second dimension can be explained as follows: the origin of life is contradiction and converse, and that means life continuously repeats movements and changes with ‘acting nothingness’. Kim Ji-ha explains that such a moving process of life creates a style and a gap from the literature's point of view by the intervention of ‘acting nothingness’ in the text, and the poetic line changing is created by such style and gap, which is based on the same complementary principle as in contradiction and converse that lie in the origin of life. Third dimension can be found in the expression, ‘voluntary poverty in words (emptying of words)’ that Kim Ji-ha asserted in relation to the poetic principles of life literature. If the essence of life is based on ‘nothingness’,then life literature should display vigilance against the abundance of images and the extravagance of language in its form, and adopt the aesthetic rule of ‘voluntary poverty in words’ that is based on the nothingness, emptiness,futility and freedom.
This study examines how the poetry centering on margins and ‘Teum (gap)’ achieves poetic formalization through its interaction with life ideology of Kim Ji-ha and how that becomes the grammar of life poetry from the three dimensions mentioned above.
