초록

이 연구는 1970년대 김지하와 신경림의 시를 대상으로 민중시의 특성과 지형을 탐색한 시도이다. 김지하와 신경림은 1970년대 산문과 시에서 중요한 민중문학 담론과 민중시를 제출한 대표적인 시인으로서 특히 이들 시는 1970년대 민중시의 특성과 결여를 선명히 보여주었다. 1970년대 김지하는 시인에게 전통 시가에 내재한 풍자를 매개로 민중 정신과의 혈연 관계를 요청했다. 그의 풍자 대상은 담시 ‘오적’의 상징에서 확인할 수 있듯 당대 기득권층들이었다. 그는 풍자 정신을 계승했으나, 민중을 찾기 힘든 민중시, 민중에 앞장서는 영웅의 민중시를 썼다. 전달자로서 대상에 대한 논평에는 특화되었으나 일인칭의 내면 표현에는 소홀하고, 민중의 저항 정신은 선명하지만 민중의 실체나 일인칭의 감정은 흐릿한 특성을 가진 것이 김지하의 민중시였다. 1970년대 신경림은 시인과 민중의 어긋남을 인정하며 민중의 생활감정이 시에 드러나는 길을 모색했다. 그의 시는 관찰자 화자를 설정하여 억압받는 민중의 다양하고도 구체적인 실상을 형상화했다. 화자는 주로 관찰 대상이 겪는 사건에 공분하는 것으로 감정을 표현했다. 즉 타인이 배제된 감정은 좀처럼 표현되지 않았던 것이다. 이 또한 일인칭 장르인 시의 특성에 부응하는 것이라 보기 어렵다. 김지하와 신경림의 시는 1970년대 다양한 민중시가 출현했다는 것을 알려주는 예시였다. 두 시인의 시는 한편으로는 기득권 층이 내세운 영웅 반대편에서 각자의 시적 개성을 보여주었고, 다른 한 편으로는 전달자나 관찰자 화자를 상정하여 제한된 일인칭 화자의 목소리를 들려주었다. 이들 시는 다양한 민중시 출현이라는 시대적 소임을 다하면서 체험 주체가 화자인 민중시의 필요성을 환기하며 1980년대 노동시 출현을 예고했다.

This study is an attempt to explore the characteristics and terrain of People's Poetry by focusing on the poems of Kim Ji-ha and Shin Gyeong-rim in the 1970s. Kim Ji-ha and Shin Gyeong-rim are representative poets who submitted important People's Literary discourses and People's Poetry in the 1970s, and their poems clearly showed the characteristics and deficiencies of People's Poetry in the 1970s. In the 1970s, Kim Ji-ha requested a kinship with the spirit of the people through the satire inherent in traditional poetry. The targets of his satire were the vested interests of the time, as evidenced by the symbolism of the 'five enemies' in his poems. The poetry he wrote inherited the spirit of satire, but he wrote People's Poetry that was difficult to find the people, and People's Poetry of heroes who took the lead in leading the people. Kim Ji-ha's People's Poetry specialized in commenting on the subject as a messenger but neglected the inner expression of the first person, and had the characteristics of being clear in the spirit of the people's resistance but blurred in the substance of the people or the emotions of the first person. In the 1970s, Shin Gyeong-rim acknowledged the division between the poet and the people and sought a way for the people's feelings to be revealed in his poems. His poems set up an observer speaker to represent the diverse and specific realities of the oppressed people. The speaker's emotions were expressed mainly by sympathizing with the events experienced by the object of observation, meaning that emotions from which others were excluded were rarely expressed. This also does not meet the characteristics of poetry as a first-person perspective genre. The poems of Kim Ji-ha and Shin Gyeong-rim were examples showing the emergence of various People's Poetry in the 1970s. On the one hand, their poems showed their poetic personalities opposite to the heroes presented by the vested interests, and on the other hand, they gave voice to a limited first-person speaker by assuming a messenger or observer. These poems, while fulfilling the task of the era of the emergence of various People's Poetry, called attention to the need for People's Poetry in which the subject of experience is the speaker, foreshadowing the emergence of Labor Poetry in the 1980s.
