카프 시와 돌봄 (KAPF POETRY and CARE)

초록

본 연구는 카프 시를 돌봄의 관점에서 분석하여, 식민지 조선의 아동청소년 노동자들이 처한 신체적 취약성과 돌봄 위기를 조명하는 것을 목표로 한다. 이는 기존의 카프 시 연구가 주목해 왔던 계급투쟁과 이데올로기적 저항의 관점에서는 비가시화되어 있던 지점이다.
여기서 돌봄은 신체적 취약성과 상호의존적 관계에 기반한 담론으로 근대 자본주의 돌봄 배당을 분제화하는 지평을 열고 있다. 근대 자본주의 시스템에서 돌봄은 가정 내에 할당된 사적인 영역에 속한 문제였다. 그런데, 근대 자본주의의 근간을 이루는 경제 개념의 기원인 오이코노미아는 사적 영토의 돌봄을 포함한 개념이다. 근대는 이를 여성의 가족 내 돌봄 배당을 통해 은폐했다. 문제는 근대 자본주의 시스템이 돌봄 할당하고 돌봄의 대상으로 본 아동청소년은 물론이고, 가족 내 돌봄에 위치 지어진 여성들조차 근대 자본주의 노동시장에서 노동자로 착취당했다는 것이다. 아동청소년 노동자들의 경우, 이런 점에서 노동시장에 이들이 조기 진입하도록 사회문화적으로 강제화되었다는 것 뿐 아니라 돌봄을 제공받을 권리에서도 배제되었다는 것을 의미한다. 본 연구의 대상으로 삼은 카프 시에는 바로 이러한 돌봄 위기의 문제화가 나타나는 시편들이 있었다.
이들 카프 시는 대체로 『카프 시인집』 발간을 전후로 한 구간에서 발견되었다. 카프의 볼세비키화가 나타나던 시기가 바로 이 시기이다. 그 이유는 그 시기가 세계대공황 시기였고, 일제강점기 일본의 자본이 공황의 문제를 식민지 조선의 값싼 아동청소년 노동임금을 통해 해결하려고 한 시기가 이때였기 때문이다. 이 시기 카프 시에서는 취약한 노동환경과 거주환경으로 인해 나타나는 돌봄 위기기 가시화되고 있다. 박팔양의 ｢여섯 시 콘트｣는 공장 노동자들이 신체적 통제와 폭력적 감시에 노출된 현실을 극적으로 묘사한다. 특히, 아동청소년 여성 노동자들이 공장에서 신체검사를 빙자한 성적 학대를 당하는 장면을 통해, 돌봄이 부재한 환경에서 노동자의 신체가 착취와 억압의 대상으로 전락하는 모습을 부각한다.
한편, 수감의 경험과 그로 인한 신체적 취약성의 가시화가 야기하는 돌봄 위기를 형상화한 시편들도 있었다. 카프 시에는 수감과 고문으로 인해서 신체가 훼손되어 그 기능을 상실한 주체들이 등장한다. 신체가 훼손된 주체들을 돌보고 염려하는 주체들은 신체의 취약성이 가시화된 주체를 바라보면서 자신들의 신체적 취약성도 마주한다. 이를 통해 그들은 연대의 가능성을 보고 잠재적으로 혁명적 주체가 된다. 권환의 ｢이 꼴이 되다니!｣가 대표적인 시였다.
이러한 분석에 따라 본 연구는 카프 시를 지금 여기의 현재적 지평에서 새롭게 재독해할 수 있는 지평을 나름대로 가시화했다. 이는 현재 우리 사회에서 이어지고 있는 사업장에서의 중대재해와 같은 돌봄의 문제들을 우리 문학사와 연관지어 독해할 수 있도록 돕는다. 이 문제가 단순히 계급적 문제에 의한 것이 아니라 근대 자본주의가 야기한 돌봄 위기에 기반한 것임을 이해할 수 있도록 하는 것이다. 카프 시를 이러한 문제적 지평에서 지속가능한 재독해의 가능성을 열도록 이끄는데 돌봄의 관점이 의미를 가지는 이유가 여기에 있다.

영어초록

This study analyzes KAPF poetry from the perspective of care, aiming to highlight the physical vulnerability and care crisis faced by child and adolescent laborers in colonial Korea. This perspective brings to light aspects that have remained invisible within the dominant framework of class struggle and ideological resistance in previous KAPF poetry research.
Here, care is understood as a discourse based on physical vulnerability and interdependent relationships, opening a horizon that problematizes care allocation under modern capitalism. In the modern capitalist system, care was relegated to the private sphere, assigned within the family. However, the concept of oikonomia, which constitutes the foundation of modern economic systems, originally encompassed the care of the private domain. Modernity obscured this by assigning care to women within the family. The issue, however, is that the modern capitalist system not only assigned care responsibilities but also exploited women, who were positioned within the family as caregivers, as laborers in the capitalist labor market. In the case of child and adolescent laborers, this not only meant that they were socially and culturally forced into premature entry into the labor market but also that they were systematically excluded from the right to receive care. The KAPF poetry analyzed in this study problematizes precisely these aspects of the care crisis.
These KAPF poems were largely found in the period surrounding the publication of KAPF Poetry Collection, coinciding with the Bolshevization of KAPF. This period corresponded to the Great Depression, during which Japan’s colonial capital sought to address the crisis by exploiting the cheap labor of child and adolescent workers in colonial Korea. In KAPF poetry from this period, the care crisis emerging from precarious labor and living conditions is made visible. Notably, Park Pal-yang’s Six O’Clock Contes dramatically portrays the exposure of factory workers to bodily control and violent surveillance. Particularly, scenes in which young female laborers undergo sexual abuse under the pretext of body inspections underscore how, in an environment devoid of care, workers’ bodies become objects of exploitation and oppression.
Meanwhile, KAPF Poetry also depict the experience of imprisonment and the visibility of physical vulnerability, which in turn reveals the care crisis. KAPF poetry includes figures who have lost bodily functions due to torture and imprisonment. The subjects who care for and express concern for those with damaged bodies, in turn, confront their own physical vulnerability. Through this recognition, they perceive the possibility of solidarity and become, at least potentially, revolutionary subjects. A representative poem in this regard is Kwon Hwan’s How Did I End Up Like This!.
Through this analysis, this study attempts to reinterpret KAPF poetry from a contemporary perspective, expanding the horizon for sustainable rereading. This allows for an interpretation that connects care-related issues, such as major industrial disasters in contemporary workplaces, to the history of Korean literature. It helps to reveal that these issues are not merely class-based but are fundamentally rooted in the care crisis brought about by modern capitalism. The perspective of care is significant in guiding the continued rereading of KAPF poetry within this critical framework.
