연극치료에서의 시 활용 - 시 연기 치료 제안서 (Utilization of Poem in Drama Therapy - Proposal for Poetry Acting Therapy)

초록

이 연구는 연극치료에서 ‘시 연기’가 보이는 치유 효과와 그를 불러일으키는 요소들, 그리고 실제 적용과 결과를 소개한다. 연구자는 Y 신경정신과 부설 마음소리극 클리닉에서 2020년 9~10월까지 7회, 9명의 참여자와의 비대면 워크숍 ‘리어왕의 행복 찾기’를 사례로 분석하였다. 시는 본래 연극에서 카타르시스를 유발하는 본질적 존재였다. 시의 요소 중 ‘운율’은 감정의 분위기에, ‘이미지’는 과거 사건의 기억과 연관성이 있다. ‘상징’은 마음 깊은 곳을, ‘은유’는 추상적인 것을 인식하게 한다. 이들이 잘 어우러진 셰익스피어의 희곡과 성경의 시편은 ‘인간의 본성과 고통’을 토로하는 공통점이 있다.
특히 극시가 가진 ‘역할’과 ‘스토리’는 참여자가 자발적으로 마음을 드러내고 인물과 공감하며 자기성찰을 하게하고, 상황에 대한 이해를 도와 감정을 유추하게 한다. ‘리어왕’을 보며 참여자들은 아버지에게 버림받은 딸의 심정을 저마다 다양하게 공감하며 시로 표현도 해보고 자신도 몰랐던 깊은 마음을 알게 되었으며, ‘역할’이라는 안전장치를 통해 객관성을 유지하며 치유에 도달했다. 앞으로 치유적 잠재력의 보고인 시의 활용을 통해 시 연기 치료 연구가 활성화되어 K-연극치료가 국제적으로 치유문화를 조성하는 큰 역할을 담당하게 되길 바란다.

영어초록

This study is aimed at introducing the therapeutic effects of displayed by ‘poetry acting’ in drama therapy and the elements that induce such effects, and the results of actual applications thereof. Researcher analyzed the case of ‘Finding happiness of King Lear’, a non-contact workshop with 9 participants held a total of 7 times during September ~ October, 2020 at the Sound of Heart Drama Clinic, a subsidiary institute of Y Neuropsychiatry. Originally, poem was used essentially in theatrical play to induce catharsis. ‘Cadence’, among the elements of poem, is associated with the ambience of emotion while ‘image’ with the memory of the past incidences. Meanwhile, ‘symbols’ and ‘metaphor’ induce the readers to become aware of the depth of mind and abstract things, respectively. The plays of Shakespeare and the Book of Psalms of the Bible in which these elements are well harmonized share the common feature of venting out the ‘innate nature of and pains experienced by human’.
In particular, the ‘roles’ and ‘story’ that dramatic poem is equipped with induces the participants to introspect themselves by voluntarily revealing their inner thoughts and sympathize with the character being played, and conjecture the emotions by assisting with the understanding of the situations. The participants, while viewing ‘King Lear’, attempted to express the feelings of the daughter forsaken by the father through poem by diversely sympathizing with such feelings individually and came to realize the feelings they themselves had deep in their hearts, which they previously were not aware of. Eventually, they were able to heal themselves by maintaining objectively through the safety mechanism of the ‘role’. Accordingly, it is sincerely hoped that researches on poem and acting therapy will become activated through the utilization of poem, which has enormous therapeutic potential, in order for K-drama therapy to play a major role in establishing the healing culture internationally.
