김동명의 시론시와 시적 자의식 고찰 (A Study on Kim Dong-myeong's Poetry and Poetic Self-consciousness)

초록

이 논문은 김동명의 시론시에 나타나는 시적 자의식을 고찰한 것이다. 시적 자의식은 협의로 보면 시에 관한 시인의 생각을 뜻한다. 하지만 광의로 보면 시인의 사상이나 이념, 미적 태도, 언어관 등도 포괄한다. 이 논문은 후자의 관점을 취했다. 즉 시의 문맥 속에 시나 시인이 등장하지 않더라도 시적 자의식과 관련되는 시편들을 두루 논의의 대상으로 삼았다.
김동명은 일제 강점기와 분단의 역사적 시련기를 온몸으로 살다 간 서정 시인이자 민족시인이었다. 그는 시를 통해 역사의 어둠을 밝히고 그 질곡을 넘어서고자 했다. 그가 등단하던 1923년 즈음은 일제 강점기의 강압적 통치로 인한 궁핍과 우울의 시절이었다. 이 시기 그의 시는 보들레르의 열정과 절규를 빌려 우울한 내면세계를 극복하고자 했다. 등단작인 「당신이 만약 내게 문을 열어주시면」과 첫 시집 『나의 거문고』에는 그러한 시와 관련된 시적 자의식을 드러난다. 1938년에 간행한 두 번째 시집 『파초』를 발간할 즈음의 시는 일제 강점기의 현실에 대한 저항성과 시적 서정성이 조화를 이루고 있다. 「수선화」, 「파초」, 「내 마음은」, 「우리 말」, 「우리 글」 등에는 그와 관련된 시적 자의식이 드러난다. 이들 시의 중심 내용인 순수 서정, 낭만 정신, 민족애 등은 그의 시가 전반적으로 지향하는 세계와 일치한다.
광복 이후 김동명은 북한의 사회주의 정권과 남한의 자유당 독재 정권에 대해 저항적인 시를 창작했다. 예컨대 「가두점경(街頭點景)」에는 그러한 시와 관련된 자의식이 드러난다. 또한 역사의 질곡이 극심한 상황 속에서도 서정적 감각과 초월 의지를 견지한다. 6·25전쟁 시기에 쓴 시 「대전」에서 시는 비루한 현실을 서정적으로 극복하기 위한 정갈한 영혼의 장소라고 본다. 이러한 인식은 부단히 현실 너머의 이상 세계를 꿈꾸어온 김동명의 시적 자의식과 온전히 일치한다.

영어초록

This paper examines the poetic self-consciousness that appears in Kim Dong-myeong's meta-poetry. Poetic self-consciousness refers to the poet's idea of poetry in consultation. However, in a broad sense, it also encompasses the poet's ideas, ideologies, aesthetic attitudes, and language views. This paper took the latter view. In other words, even if a poem or poet does not appear in the context of a poem, the psalms related to poetic self-consciousness were used as the subject of discussion.
Kim Dong-myeong was a lyric poet and national poet who lived throughout the Japanese colonial period and the historical ordeal of division. Through poetry, he tried to shed light on the darkness of history and overcome the yoke. Around 1923, when he started his poetic career, it was a time of poverty and depression due to the coercive rule of the Japanese colonial period. During this period, his poems embraced Baudelaire's passion and scream to overcome the gloomy inner world. His debut work, “If you open the door to me” and his first collection of poems Geomungo(A lyrical instrument), reveal poetic self-consciousness related to such poems. Around the time of the publication of the second collection of poems, Pacho, published in 1938, the resistance to the reality of the Japanese colonial period and poetic lyricism are harmonized. Poetic self-consciousness related to it is revealed in “Daffodil”, “Plantain”, “My heart is”, “Our language”, and “Our writing”. The central contents of these poems, such as pure lyricism, romantic spirit, and national love, are consistent with the world that his poems generally aim for.
After Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule, Kim Dong-myeong created poems that were resistant to the socialist regime in North Korea and the dictatorship of the liberal party in South Korea. For example, “Street scenes” reveals self-consciousness related to such poetry. In addition, it maintains a lyrical sense and transcendental will even in situations where history is severely distorted. In “Daejeon”, a poem written during the Korean War, poetry is regarded as a place of neat soul to overcome the poor reality lyrically. This perception is completely consistent with Kim Dong-myeong's poetic self-consciousness, who has constantly dreamed of an ideal world beyond reality.
