초록

당나라 시인 盧仝(796?～835)은 韓愈와 賈島 등과 각별한 교분을 가졌던 韓孟詩派의 중요한 한 사람이다. 盧仝의 대표작인 「月蝕詩」는 1677자의 장편으로서 당나라 헌종 원화 5년(810) 11월 14일 밤에 월식을 보고, 그 현상에 비유해서 당시 국정을 농단하던 환관들과 무능한 신하들을 諷諭한 작품이다.
盧仝의 「月蝕詩」는 월식에 대한 세밀한 묘사와 간절한 서정의 투영, 天體의 생물화와 의인화를 통한 사실감 전달, 구체적인 議論 전개를 통한 선명한 논지 전달 양상이 돋보인다. 아울러 장편 가행체의 비교적 자유로운 형식을 적극 활용하여, 서사와 묘사․서정과 의론의 표현 과정에서 파격과 독창성을 발휘하면서도 상호 조화를 이뤄 작품성을 높이고 개성을 구현하였다. 그리하여 盧仝의 「月蝕詩」는 시어가 險怪하고 시상이 기발하며 시상의 전개 방식이 종횡무진하면서도 강렬한 주제의식을 발산함으로써 역대 문인들로부터 ‘崎崛險怪’, ‘詭奇怪異’하다는 평을 받았다.
이로 인해 盧仝의 「月蝕詩」는 중국은 물론 한국의 문인들에게도 많은 영향을 미쳤다. 고려시대 주요 문인들은 盧仝의 「月蝕詩」가 지닌 주제와 표현방식을 긍정적으로 인식하며 깊이 감상하고 작품에 인용했다. 특히 조선시대에 들어와서는 盧仝의 「月蝕詩」를 적극적으로 모의하는 양상이 본격적으로 나타났다. 그 중에서 鄭希良과 閔齊仁은 자신의 정치의식과 신념을 盧仝의 「月蝕詩」를 모의함으로써 우회적이지만 강렬하게 표출했다. 또한 朴泰淳은 月課라는 창작 동기에 따라 盧仝의 「月蝕詩」가 지닌 작품구조와 표현기법을 충실히 모의하는 가운데 변화와 개성을 추구하여 詩才를 과시했다.
그에 비해서 조선 후기의 徐命膺과 李學逵는 西學의 영향과 실학적 학풍을 바탕으로 盧仝의 「月蝕詩」를 비평하고 모의했다. 이를 통해 철저하게 천문학적인 관점에서 작품의 허무맹랑함을 평가절하하고, 나아가서 중세적 災異觀까지 비판하였으며, 자신의 천문지식으로 월식의 원리를 다시 설명했다. 이는 조선 후기 문인들이 자연과학적 인식 수준이 높아짐에 따라 기존의 문학적 표현이나 정치적 상징성을 인식하는 관점에도 상당한 변화가 생겼음을 잘 보여준다.
그러나 중세 봉건사회였던 조선시대에는 월식이 왕의 권위와 직결된 현상으로 여겨졌다. 따라서 자연과학적 인식 수준이 높은 조선 후기 문인들이라도 월식을 둘러싼 정치적 상징성을 무시하고 救蝕禮를 전면적으로 부정한다는 것은 쉽지 않은 일이었다. 이와 같은 점을 고려할 때, 徐命膺과 李學逵가 盧仝의 「月蝕詩」를 비평하고 모의하는 양상은 더욱 주목을 끈다. 요컨대 徐命膺과 李學逵는 월식에 대한 변화된 가치관을 왕의 권위를 저촉하지 않는 범위 내에서 적극적으로 표현하기 위해 盧仝의 「月蝕詩」를 문학적 매개로 활용했던 것이다.

영어초록

The poem, ‘A Poet on a Lunar Eclipse(月蝕詩)’ created by a poet during the Tang Dynasty, ‘Lu-Tong(盧仝)’ is a long poem consisting of 1,677 characters. ‘A Poet on a Lunar Eclipse’ written by ‘Lu-Tong’ was a poem which was written for criticizing the eunuchs who used to manipulated the government affairs and the incompetent retainers at that time while having likened the situation to a Lunar Eclipse which was seen to him at night on November 14, 810. ‘A Poem on a Lunar Eclipse’ written by ‘Lu-Tong’ stands out in the aspects of the expression of realism through the organification and personification of the celestial bodies and the vivid expression of arguments through the development of specific arguments as well as the elaborate description of a lunar eclipse and the projection of earnest lyricism into a poem. Thus, the poem released a strong sense of subject while the narrations, descriptions, lyricism and arguments are harmonized. In addition, since the expressions of poetic concepts and the use of poetic words are free and brilliant, the poem has attracted a lot of attentions from the literary people in the oriental history.
Accordingly, ‘A Poet on a Lunar Eclipse’ by ‘Lu-Tong’ has influenced a lot in Korea as well as in China. Especially, during the Chosun dynasty in the Korean Peninsula, many scholars started to imitate the poet by ‘Lu-Tong’ aggressively. Among such scholars, Mr. Hee-ryang Jung and Mr. Ja-in Mihn tried to express their political awareness and beliefs while referring to ‘A Poet on a Lunar Eclipse’ by ‘Lu-Tong’. In addition, Mr. Tae-soon Park seeked for some changes and creative expressions while having faithfully followed the structure and expression methods of the poet by ‘Lu-Tong’.
On the other hand, Mr. Myeong-eung Seo and Mr. Hak-gyu Lee during late Chosun Dynasty used to criticize ‘A Poet on a Lunar Eclipse’ by ‘Lu-Tong’ from the aspect of astronomy based on their understandings of Western Learning and academic tradition of practical science. Therefore, they used to devaluate the poet by reason of the absurdness. This shows well that there were a big change in the points of view of the literary people during late Chosun Dynasty who appreciated the existing literary expressions and political symbolism since their level of acknowledgement of natural science had been enhanced.
However, during Chosun Dynasty, a solar eclipse or a lunar one was always considered as the phenomena related to the King’s Authority. Therefore, many literary people during late Chosun Dynasy might have to be troubled between their scientific awareness of a solar eclipse or a lunar one and their political ideologies. Under such situations, Mr. Myeong-eung Seo and Mr. Hak-gyu Lee could express their changed values aggressively within the limited scope by using the literary work, ‘A Poet on a Lunar Eclipse’ by Lu-Tong as a medium.
