종교개혁자 칼빈은 생애 마지막 시기에 구약의 선지서들을 해석하고 교회에 적용함으로 제네바 성도들을 양육하는 일에 헌신했다. 동일하게 바젤의 종교개혁자 외콜람파디우스(Johanness Oecolampadius, 14821531)도 생애 마지막에 구약의 선지서를 해석하고 가르쳤다. 본 논문의 목적은 두 신학자의 예레미야 성경해석을 연구함으로 그 안에 나타나는 교회론을 분석하고, 그것을 비교 연구함으로 둘 사이의 연속성을 밝히는 것이다. 이런 비교 연구가 가능한 것은 외콜람파디우스의 예레미야 성경해석이 칼빈이 선지서를 강의하던 1558년에 제네바에서 다른 선지서 해석과 함께 재출간되었기 때문이다.
본 연구는 두 가지의 연구 방법을 택한다. 먼저는 두 신학자의 성경해석에 서 교회론의 교리적인 내용을 찾아내는 것이다. 이를 위하여 하나님과 이스라엘의 언약적인 관계를 기반으로 다섯 가지의 소주제 - 교회의 정체성, 교회의 기초, 교회의 타락, 교회의 보존 그리고 교회의 회복 - 를 정하고, 두 신학자가 가르치는 예레미야 성경해석의 내용을 살펴볼 것이다. 이어서 연구 결과 나타나는 외콜람파디우스과 칼빈의 교회론을 비교 분석함으로 이 둘 사이의 공통점과 차이점을 밝히는 것이다.
본 연구를 통하여 역사적인 상황과 배경에 따라 다소 해석적인 차이를 보이기는 하지만, 예레미야 성경해석에 나타나는 칼빈과 외콜람파디우스 의 교회론은 내용적으로 연속성이 있다는 사실을 제시할 것이다. 칼빈과 외콜람파디우스는 교육적, 목회적인 관점으로 예레미야서를 해석했고, 교회가 정적인 공동체가 아니라 역동적인 면모를 가지고 점진적으로 진행되는 동적인 공동체임을 예레미야 성경해석을 통해 보여 준다. 그들이 교리적이지만 목회적인 관점으로 제시하는 교회론은 현재 한국 교회에도 교육적인 의의를 지닌다.

영어초록

In the latter part of his life, Reformer John Calvin(1509-1564) dedicated himself to interpreting the prophetic books of the Old Testament and applying them to the church, thereby nurturing the saints of Geneva. Similarly, the Reformer of Basel, Johannes Oecolampadius (1482-1531), also spent his final years interpreting and teaching the prophetic books of the Old Testament. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the two theologians’ ecclesiology found in their interpretations on the Book of Jeremiah and to reveal the continuity between them through a comparative research. This comparison is made possible by the fact that Oecolampadius' interpretation on the Book of Jeremiah was republished in Geneva in 1558, along with other prophetic interpretations, during the time Calvin was lecturing on the prophets.
This study employs two research methods. First, it identifies the doctrinal content of ecclesiology within the biblical interpretations of the two theologians. For this purpose, based on the covenantal relationship between God and Israel, five sub-topics are established - the identity of the church, the foundation of the church, the fall of the church, the preservation of the church, and the restoration of the church. And this paper will examine the two theologians’ interpretations on the Book of Jeremiah. Subsequently, by comparing and analyzing the ecclesiology of Oecolampadius and Calvin revealed in the research results, it identifies the similarities and differences between the two theologians.
This study will suggest that despite some interpretative differences owing to historical situations and backgrounds, the ecclesiology of Calvin and Oecolampadius, as reflected in their interpretations on the Book of Jeremiah, shows a substantial continuity. Both Calvin and Oecolampadius interpreted the Book of Jeremiah from educational and pastoral perspectives, demonstrating that the church is not a static community but a dynamic community with progressive developments. Their doctrinal yet pastoral approach to ecclesiology offers educational significance for the contemporary Korean church as well.
