초록

Although human civilization is so much great and progressive, it must be achieved at the cost of unequality, domination, and suffering. Increasingly, the modern civilized society becomes a good habitat for a psychopath to live in. I think that one of the important characteristics which have been driving our modern civilization pathological is condensed in psychopathy. It can be assumed that one of the origin of our pathological civilization goes back to Heracles’ psychopathic symptoms in the ancient Greek myth with the help of APA(American Psychiatrist Association)’s DSM-Ⅳ and Robert Hare’ PCL-R.
APA’s DSM-Ⅳ’ Antisocial (or dissocial) personality disorder checklist is not perfect because its definition is characterized almost strictly by a pervasive pattern of disregard for, or violation of, the rights of others, and its attendant personality disorder such as aggressive and impulsive behavior.
So, the Hare Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R) should be needed that the symptoms of psychopathy include: lack of a conscience or sense of guilt, lack of empathy, egocentricity, pathological lying, repeated violations of social norms, disregard for the law, shallow emotions, and a history of victimizing others.
Historically famous heroes have been worshipped, but often judged as a criminal, and sometimes criticised as a psychopath in the myth and the history. The hero Heracles showed his unflinching courage and charismatic exploits. If his mythical aura is removed, he never fails in a psychopath. Nonetheless, he became an immortal god, and, now, is worshipped as one of the most brilliant classical heroes. It can be thought that Heracles is a text of our pathological civilization. The powerful and intelligent people who have squandered his productive and creative energy in death and destruction have to take the initiative in pushing on with a plan of reverence for life.
