초록

본 논문은 김남천의 유일한 일본어 소설 「어떤 아침 (或る朝)」의 연구에서 그간 주목을 끌지 못했던 취재원(取材源)의 동시대적 맥락을 살려 재독함으로써 ‘국민문학’에 포섭되지 않는 계기들을 지적하는데 그 목적이 있다. 김남천이 이 소설을 통해 구하고자 한 바는 일상적 차원에서 작동하는 파시즘적 수사학의 폭력성을 전면화하는 것으로 보았기 때문이다. 작품의 서술자 ‘나’의 감정적 변화를 추동하고 제한하는 세 가지 작인들은 S(차상찬), K(박흥식), 그리고 산책이 진행되는 공간인 삼청공원으로 볼 수 있으며 이런 맥락에서 소설의 서사는 ‘나’가 S라는 렌즈를 통해 K와 산책로의 협응으로 구축된 스펙터클과 내적거리를 취하려는 시도로 읽을 수 있다. 1937년 공포된 <방공법 조선시행령>의 여파로 인해 경성 소재 녹지 공원의 기능은 크게 변화되었다. 특히 1940년 시행된 <경성시가지계획 공원결정안>을 통해 공원은 전시 방공망 구축 사업을 수행하는 공간으로 성립되기에 이른다. 이런 맥락에서 김남천은 『사랑의 수족관』(1939)에서 주인공 남녀의 결합을 매개하던 삼청공원의 장소성을 「어떤 아침」을 통해 재평가한 것으로 보인다. 동일한 공간에서 그래서 ‘나’는 고사포 진지구축 사업의 일환으로 새롭게 조성된 공원의 ‘새 도로’에서 내려다본 대경성의 경관에 그다지 감정적 반응을 보이지 않는다. 전시상황 속에서 펼쳐진 파시즘적 스펙터클이 조장하는 고양감을 밀어낼 수 있는 관점을 S에 대한 회상으로 통해 구축해놓았기 때문이다. 그러나 소설은 ‘나’가 소국민의 행렬에 한편으로 매혹되면서도 또 다른 한편으로 불안을 느끼는 장면을 제시하며 닫힌다. 유머라는 관념론적 거리두기나, 적극적인 체제 영합이라는 처세술로는 처리할 수 없는 파시즘적 스펙터클 앞에서 ‘나’는 혼란을 느낀다. 사적영역으로 분류되던 재생산의 모든 계기에 신체제의 공간기획과 스펙터클의 수사학은 깊이 침윤되어 있다는 점이 강조된 것이다. 「어떤 아침」에 이어 조선어로 발표된 「신의에 대하여」는 회고적 시선 속에서 개인의 내적 자율성이 훼손되지 않은 ‘교실’을 복원해낸다. 결국 신체제의 일상 속에서 자행되는 스펙터클의 수사학을 해체할 주체로 미래 세대에 주목한 것이다.

영어초록

This paper aims to point out the reasons why Kim Nam-cheon's only Japanese-language novel, "Aru Asa" has not been included in the "National Literature" through re-reading it in the context of contemporary literature, which did not attracted much attention in the past. Kim Namcheon's goal in this novel is to reveal the violence of fascist rhetoric that operates in everyday life. There are three factors that limit and influence the emotional changes of the narrator, "I," which are S (Cha Sang-chan), K (Park Heung-sik), and Samcheong Park for a walk. In this context, the story of the novel is interpreted as an attempt by 'I' to distance oneself internally from the spectacle constructed through the collaboration between S as a lens and the walkway with K. Due to the aftermath of the 'Air Defense Law of Chosun' promulgated in 1937, the function of the green park in KyungSung city underwent significant changes. In particular, through the 'Decision of KyungSung city Park Plan' enacted in 1940, the park became a space for the construction of an air defense network. In this context, it appears that Kim Namcheon reevaluated the spatiality of Samcheong Park, which mediated the union of the male and female protagonists in "Aquarium of Love" (1939), through "On a Certain Morning" In the same space, on the "New Road" of the park, newly constructed as part of the Gwasapo fortification project, 'I' does not show much emotional response as he looks down on the scenery of KyungSung. This is because, through memories of S in the exhibition situation, 'I' has established a perspective that can push away the sense of oppression that the fascist spectacle promotes. However, the novel ends by showing a scene where 'I' is both fascinated and uneasy with the procession of colonial subjects. In the face of a fascist spectacle that cannot be dealt with through humor or the strategy of active regime integration, 'I' feels confused. It emphasizes that the rhetoric of the regime's spatial planning and the spectacle deeply infiltrate all the instruments of reproduction that were classified as private spheres. Following "Aru Asa" "Regarding Faith" published in Korean restores the 'classroom' where an individual's internal autonomy is not damaged in a retrospective perspective. Ultimately, the future generation is highlighted as the subject to dismantle the rhetoric of the spectacle that takes place in the everyday life of the regime.
