『迂書』에 나타난 聾菴 柳壽垣의 글쓰기 방식 연구 (A Study on the Writing Method of Nongam(聾菴) Ryu Soo-Won(柳壽垣) in 『Wuseo(迂書)』)

초록

이 글은 聾菴 柳壽垣(1694∼1755)의 『迂書』에 드러난 글쓰기 방식을 살피기 위해 기획된 것으로, 류수원의 글쓰기 기법과 주제 구현 양상을 유형화함으로써, 그가 사회개혁안에 대한 견해를 어떠한 방식으로 표명하였는지 파악하였다.
먼저 2장에서는 기본적으로 『우서』전체를 개관하는 동시에 여타 실학자의 이론 및 저술서와 비교 검토함으로써 본고에서 진행할 논의에 대한 당위성을 확보하였다. 3장에서는 글쓰기 전략과 주제 구현 양상을 살핌으로써 의론 전개 방식 및 내용에 관한 연구를 진행하였다. 그 결과 첫 번째로는 문답법을 활용해 의론을 치밀하게 개진하는 동시에 반론을 불식하고자 한 양상을 확인하였다. 또한 류수원이 문답법을 활용해 배경지식을 축적함으로써 논의의 전제를 마련하였으며, 부정적인 질문에 대한 반론을 논리적으로 서술하여 논의의 약점을 줄이는 글쓰기 전략을 구사하였음을 파악하였다. 나아가 『우서』의 명칭에서 포착되는 저술 의도성을 비롯해 문답법의 형식적인 전통과 연결하여 류수원이 문답법을사용해서 논의를 전개하게 된 이유를 추론하였다. 두 번째로는 『우서』에서 류수원이 경전의 중요성을 인식하고 또 근거 자료로 인용함으로써 사회개혁안의 기준을 표명하고, 중국을 예로 들어 설명함으로써 자신의 의도를 명확하게 전달했 음을 밝혔다. 세 번째로는 『우서』에 수록된 글 가운데 유일하게 문답법이 활용되지 않은 「論東俗」 , 「論本朝政弊」 두 편을 분석 대상으로 삼아 편장자구법을 활용한 논지의 점층적 확산, 그리고 주제적 측면에서 實政으로의 귀결 양상을 파악하였다.
이에 본 이 연구는 기존에 논의된 바 없는 류수원이 구현한 다양한 글쓰기전략을 살피는 동시에 그가 실제로 표명하고자 한 논의를 함께 다룸으로써 實政, 즉 정치에 있어 실용성을 강조한 면모를 직접적으로 확인하였다는 점에서 의미를 지닌다.

영어초록

This article was designed to study the writing methods revealed in the 『Wuseo(迂書)』 by Ryu Soo-Won(柳壽垣, 1694-1755). Accordingly, by categorizing Ryu Soo-won's writing techniques and subject implementation patterns, it was intended to examine how he expressed his views on the social reform plan.
Accordingly, in Chapter 2, we were able to secure the justification for the discussion to be conducted in this paper by basically opening the entire 『Wuseo』to study the social reform plan and writing method of Ryu Soo-Won. In earnest, in Chapter 3, a comprehensive study was conducted on the development method and content of the discussion by examining the writing techniques and subject implementation aspects. First, the a question and answer method was used to carefully discuss the argument, and at the same time, the aspect of attempting to eliminate the objection was confirmed. In addition, it was confirmed that Ryu Soo-won established the premise for discussion by using the a question and answer method to accumulate background knowledge, and that a writing strategy was used to reduce the weakness of the discussion by logically describing objections to negative questions. Furthermore, we discussed in connection with the intentionality of the writing revealed in the name of 『Wuseo』, and at the same time, in connection with the formal tradition of the a question and answer method, we inferred the reason why Ryu Soo-won developed the discussion using the a question and answer method. Second, in 「Wuseo」, Ryu Soo-won recognized the importance of the scriptures and cited them as evidence to express the standards of the social reform plan, and revealed that he clearly conveyed his intention by using China as an example to explain the case. Third, in 『Wuseo』, the discussion was conducted on the only two articles that did not use the a question and answer method as the subject of analysis, and the gradual spread of the thesis using the pyeonjanggu method(篇章字句法) and the mention of real politics(實政).
Therefore, this study is considered to have a primary meaning in that it identified the social meaning of the social reform proposal proposed by Ryu Soo-won and examined various writing strategies implemented by Ryu Soo-won, which had not been discussed before. In addition, it is also considered meaningful in that it was possible to directly examine the aspect of emphasizing practicality in politics by discussing the discussions he actually intended to express through writing.
