초록

본 연구는 현재 중국 문화산업에서 가장 주목받고 있는 대중적 콘텐츠 형식인 숏 웹드라마의 발전 과정과 현황을 분석하고, 그 성공 요인을 탐구하는 데 중점을 둔다. 중국의 숏 웹드라마는 디지털 미디어 시대의 발전과 함께 급격히 성장하였다. 이 드라마들은 짧고 임팩트 있는 스토리 전개로 젊은 MZ세대의 선호를 얻어 주요 콘텐츠 형식으로 자리 잡았다. 숏 웹드라마는 회당 길이가 1분에서 15분 이내로 짧은 시간 안에 시청자들의 이목을 사로잡는 내러티브를 제공한다. 본 연구에서는 중국 숏 웹드라마의 발전 과정과 현황을 심도 있게 분석하고 이를 통해 중국 미디어 산업에서 숏 웹드라마의 특징과 성공 요인을 고찰한다. 이러한 분석을 바탕으로 결론에서는 숏 웹드라마의 빠른 성장으로 인해 발생한 문제점과 그 해결 방안을 모색하며 지속 가능한 발전을 위해 해결해야 할 주요 과제를 제시한다. 본 연구는 중국 대중문화의 현황을 파악하고 중국 숏 웹드라마의 향후 발전 방향을 조망하는 데 기여하고자 한다. 더 나아가 한·중 양국 간의 문화 교류와 콘텐츠 산업의 발전에도 중요한 기여를 할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

영어초록

The development of Chinese short web dramas has rapidly progressed as a result of the fusion between new media and traditional video content. While Youku's 'Hip-hop Quartet' in 2008 is often considered the starting point of web dramas, the substantial beginning of short web dramas occurred with the release of iQIYI's vertical short web drama 'Life's Assault on Me' in 2018. Following the China National Radio and Television Administration's definition and classification of short web dramas, the market size has expanded, with projections estimating it will reach 100 billion yuan by 2027. Key trends include attention-grabbing titles, fast-paced narratives, the fragmentation of traditional video content, actor branding and traffic marketing strategies, and expansion through advertising strategies and global market entry. The success of Chinese short web dramas can be attributed to several factors: low production costs due to the short duration, the proliferation of various platforms and mobile devices, content and marketing strategies targeting younger audiences, integration with social media, the use of AI technology to provide personalized content, and supportive government policies. These factors have collectively driven the rapid growth and widespread adoption of short web dramas. However, several challenges remain. These include the proliferation of low-quality content, a lack of creativity, excessive commercialization, intensified competition among platforms, and stricter government regulations. To overcome these challenges, close collaboration between the industry and government is essential. Strategies to improve content quality, enhance creativity, prevent excessive commercialization, and relax regulations are necessary. By addressing these issues, Chinese short web dramas can establish a stronger presence and competitiveness in the global market.
