    This paper viewed the discussion about ‘death’ that appears in the poetics by Kim Soo-young as being caused by Maurice Blanchot’s influence and observed it in detail. Although the influence relationship of Kim Soo-young’s poetics has been discussed from various angles up until now, studies on Blanchot’s influence have hardly been pursued. What is particularly interesting in Kim Soo-young’s poetics is that participation in society was asserted while expanding on discussions on topics such as the meaning- lessness of language, silence, nothingness, death, etc. While Kim Soo-young even talked about the intricacies of linguistic actions, at the same time he uttered revolution and discussed the directionality of modern poetry, and during this process he always emphasized ‘death.’ However, the reason for this is consistent with Blanchot’s discussion on death. Blanchot, too, regarding the issue of death, associated politics, literature, and language with each other.
    From the start, Kim Soo-young searched about the modernity of modern poetry. Around the 1960s he started to align the issues of modern poetry with the issues of death, and at the time he proposed the road of generation through death, following Blanchot’s discussions.
    Even while developing the study of language, Kim Soo-young associated this with ‘death.’ Also, in discussing about the directionality which the language of poetry should pursue, he broached ‘silence,’ ‘nothingness,’ etc. for discussions. He emphasized that the language of modern poetry is a language that approached near death and stated that creation is achieved in death. This is consistent with Blanchot’s theory on language. Related to this, he stated that the image of poetry, too, comes from the practice of death.
    Not only that, Soo-young Kim was also influenced by Blanchot even from the perspective of showing of the intentions of others through the subject’s death. In the mid-1960s Soo-young Kim emphasized in his poetics the killing of ‘ego.’ The reason for the death of the subject of poetry was in accordance with the discussions by Blanchot. Based on this, Soo-young Kim not only talked about the death of ‘ego,’ but also showed the intentions of others and community within ‘ego.’ His emphasis of the death of ‘ego’ while discussing the directionality of participating poetry was based on these reasons.
