초록

이 논문은 손정도의 생애와 그가 전개했던 대한민국 임시정부 적십자운동의 성격에 대해 1920년대의 독립전쟁을 염두에 두면서 살펴본 연구 이다. 손정도는 1882년 7월 평안북도에서 출생하였으며, 1903년 기독교를수용한 이후 숭실중학교와 감리교계의 협성성경신학원을 졸업하였으며, 감리교계 목사와 독립운동 지도자로서 평생을 살았다. 1919년 8월 상해 임시정부에 의해 대한적십자회가 조직되자 상의원(운영위원)으로 참여하였으며, 1922년 3월에는 제2대 대한적십자회 회장 에 선출되어 상해를 떠날 때까지 적십자운동에 관여하였다. 그는 대한적 십자회 국내지부 결성을 위해 노력하는 한편, 군자금을 모집하고 향후 전 개될 독립전쟁을 준비하고 있었다. 뿐만 아니라 임시정부 의정원의장, 인 성학교 교장 및 한국노병회 농공부장 등으로 활동하면서 임시정부의 기 반을 닦는데 큰 역할을 하였다. 대한적십자회 회장으로 선출된 후에는 일제의 탄압과 독립운동을 하다가 희생된 동지들을 돕기 위한 <청원서>를 발표하는 등 적극적인 모 금활동을 전개하였다. 청원서에서는 일제의 노예적인 탄압을 고발하고 우리 민족이 수행하고 있는 독립운동의 정당성을 강조하였다. 근거지를 만주로 옮긴 후에는 신참교회와 길림교회를 담임하며, 재만한인의 경제적 안정과 한인 자제들의 교육문제 해결 및 독립운동 세력에 대한 후원 등에 적극적으로 나섰다. 농무조합, 농업유한공사, 농민호조사 등을 통해 한인들의 집단적 농업경형을 통한 생활의 안정을 도모하였으 며, 영신학교 등을 운영하였다. 또한 한인사회가 중국관헌들로부터 받고 있는 부당한 대우를 해결하고자 구축문제대책강구회와 한족동향회 등의 활동을 주도하였다. 그의 활동은 중국 당국과의 교섭과정에서 일정한 성과를 거두었던 것으로 보 인다.

영어초록

This article examines Son Jeong-do’s life and the characteristics of the Red Cross Society movement of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea with the independence war in mind in the 1920s. Son Jeong-do born in July 1882 in Pyeonganbukdo. He accepted Christianity in 1903 and then he graduated the Soongsil middle school and Hyupsung Methodist Theological Seminary. He lived his whole life as a Methodist minister and leader of the Korean independence movement. In August 1919, when the Korean Red Cross Society was organized by Provisional Governmnet of the Republic of Korean in Shanhai, Son Jeong-do participated as prior member(Sang Uiwon, member of the executive committee). In March 1922, He was elected as the second president of the Korean Red Cross Society and was involved in the activities of the Korean Red Cross Society until he left Shanghai. He was trying to form a domestic branch of the Korean Red Cross Society, raising military funds and preparing for the future of war of inpedepnce. In addition, He played a major role in laying the foundation for the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, serving as the chairman of the Provisional Council, the principal of Inseong school and the head of agricultural and industrial department of the Korean working soldiers association. After being elected as the president of Korean Red Cross Society, he actively raised funds by announcing a petition to help comrades who were sacrificed during the Janpanese crackdown and independence movement. The Petition accused Japans’s slave suppression and emphasized the legitimacy of the independence movement carried out by the Korean People. After moving the base to Manchuria, he was in charge of the Shincham Church and the Jilin Church, and actively supported the economic stability of Koreans in Manchuria, the educational problems of Korean children and the independence movement. Through the agricultural copartnership, the agricultural corporations, and the society of mutual aid of the Korean peasants, etc., the stability of Korean people's lives was promoted through collective agricultural management, and he opreated Youngshin School, etc. In addition, in order to solve the unfair treatment that the Korean community is receiving from Chinese officials, it led activities such as meetings of Koreans from the same hometown as the Korean Expulsion Countermeasures Association. His activities appear to have achieved certain results in the negotiation process with the Chinese authorities.
