초록

This paper sheds light on individual approaches taken by Ian McEwan, Kazuo Ishiguro, and Jeanette Winterson through their respective works to explore the juxtaposition of artificial intelligence and human placement, along with the new assemblage of new temporal structures in investigating the post-Brexit human condition. Firstly, with McEwan’s The Cockroach and its transition to Machines Like Me, the limitations of satirical narrative were analyzed with the examination of the new attempts in Machines Like Me and the temporal fragmentation and reconnection of alternate history. Secondly, Ishiguro’s Klara and the Sun examined a fresh assemblage where, through a narrative of artificial intelligence distinct from the realm of memory-handling Arthurian romance, the juxtaposition of a post-Brexit human absurdity was revealed, set against an eerily similar yet distinctly different AI backdrop within a post-fascist world. Finally, Winterson’s Frankissstein illuminated the approach towards Brexit issues. Winterson, an author who had previously experimented with alternate histories in numerous works, attempted to tackle Brexit, unlike McEwan and Ishiguro, with the urgency and immediacy of Brexit in mind.
