제사와 재산상속을 통해서 본 유교적 가부장제 인식의 현주소: 젠더별 세대 차이를 중심으로 (Understanding the Perception of Confucian Patriarchy Through Ancestor Worship and Inheritance: Focusing on Gender and Generation Differences)

초록

본 연구는 제사와 재산상속에서 나타나는 유교적 가부장제에 대한 인식 차이를, 젠더별 세대 차이로 살펴보면서 한국 가족의 현주소를파악하고자 한다. 이를 위해 수도권에 거주하는 19세 이상 성인 남녀 1,319명을 대상으로 온라인 조사를 실시하였다. 온라인 조사 결과, 베이비붐(BB)세대 330명, X세대 331명, M세대 338명, 그리고 Z세대 326명이 수집되었다. 젠더별 세대 차이를 살펴보기 위하여 SPSS 22.0 프로그램을 사용하여 교차분석을 실시하였다. 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 젠더별 제사에 대한 인식을 살펴본 결과, 남성은 기제의경우 세대 관계없이, 명절 차례는 BB세대만 필요하다고 보았다. M세대는 부모까지, BB세대는 조부모까지 제사를 지내야 한다고 인식하였으며, M세대는 동거가족만, BB세대는 형제자매, Z세대는 4촌 이내로 제사에 참석해야 한다고 인식하였다. 그리고 Z세대는 제사를 조상숭배의 의미로, BB세대는 후손의 친목 및 유대강화로 인식하였다. 여성은 기제의 경우 X세대는 부모까지, Z세대는 조부모까지 제사를 지내야 한다고 인식하였으며, X세대는 형제자매, Z세대는 4촌 이내로 제사에 참석해야 한다고 인식하였다. 그리고 Z세대는 제사를 조상숭배의의미로, BB세대는 후손의 친목 및 유대강화로 의미 부여하였다. 반면, 젠더와 세대에 상관없이 증조부모와 고조부모까지 제사를 지내야한다고 인식하지 않았으며, 6촌과 당내친이 제사에 참석해야 한다고 인식하지 않았다. 그리고 시제는 필요하지 않다고 보았다. 둘째, 젠더별 재산상속에 대한 인식을 살펴본 결과, 남성은 Z세대의 경우 상속법대로, BB세대는 배우자 우대상속과 부모부양에 기여한 자녀 우대상속을 공정하다고 보았다. 여성은 세대에 상관없이 고인의 배우자는 상속법대로, 자녀의 경우 Z세대는 상속법대로, M세대는 자녀 간 균분상속을, BB세대는 부모부양에 기여한 자녀 우대상속을 공정하다고 보았다. 이처럼 한국 가족은 여전히 유교적 가부장적 원리가 청산되지않고 작동하면서 젠더와 세대 간 갈등을 야기하는데, 재산상속보다 제사 영역에서 이런 갈등이 더 가시화되고 있음을 알 수 있다. 그러나세대 변화가 나타나 제사는 M세대부터, 재산상속은 Z세대부터 인식의 차이로 인한 갈등이 약화될 것임을 전망할 수 있다.

영어초록

This study examines the perception of Confucian patriarchy through ancestor worship and inheritance according to gender and generation differences. An online survey was conducted among 1,319 individuals: 330 Babyboom (BB) generation, 331 X generation, 338 M generation, and 326 Z generation. Cross tabulation analyses were used, and SPSS 22.0 program was used for analyses. For men, all four generations considered the ancestor worship on the date of the ancestors’ deaths necessary, while only BB generation perceived that the memorial rituals on holidays are necessary. Regarding the range of ancestor worship, M generation considered the ancestor worship necessary up to deceased parents, and BB generation considered it necessary up to deceased grandparents.
Regarding the participation in the ancestor worship, M generation perceived only families living together need to participate; BB generation perceived siblings need to participate, and Z generation perceived cousins need to participate. For the meaning of the ancestor worship, Z generation perceived it as it is (worshiping the ancestors), while BB generation perceived that it is for bonding with families. For women, X generation considered the ancestor worship on the date of the ancestors’ deaths necessary up to deceased parents, while Z generation considered it necessary up to deceased grandparents. X generation perceived that siblings need to participate in the ancestor worship, while Z generation believed that cousins need to participate. Z generation considered the ancestor worship as it is, while BB generation perceived that it is for bonding with families. Regarding the perception about inheritance, male Z generation believed that the inheritance needs to be proceeded according to the law, and BB generation believed that the inheritance needs to consider the widowed partner and the children who contributed to the caretaking of the deceased parents. For women, all generations believed that the interitance for widowed partners needs to be proceeded according to the law.
Regarding the interitance for children, female Z generation believed that it should be proceeded according to the law; M generation believed in the equal distribution among children, and BB generation believed that the children who took care of the deceased parents need to be considered first. In conclusion, many Korean families are still operated based on confucianism, causing family conflicts. This kind of conflict can be worsened in the area of the ancestor worship, rather than inheritance.
