문화콘텐츠 속 전통복식 활용의 문제점과 고증의 필요성 -지자체와 지역 축제의 캐릭터 복식을 중심으로- (Problems with Utilizing Korean Traditional Clothing and the Necessity for Historical Research as Shown by Cultural Contents -Focusing on Characters’ Clothing in Local Government Festivals and Regional)

초록

이 연구의 목적은 전통복식을 착용한 모습으로 묘사된 캐릭터를 보유한 전국 지자체와 지역 축제를 선별하여 복식(服飾) 고증(考證)과 활용, 조합과 표현 방식에서 나타나는 제반 문제들을 비판적으로 검토하고, 그러한 문제를 현실적으로 보완･개선할 수 있는 가능성을 모색하는 것이다. 전국 지자체와 지역 축제 캐릭터의 복식 착용 현황을 파악한 결과, 전국 179개 지자체 중 64개 지자체에서 전통복식을 착용한 캐릭터가 확인되었다. 또한 문화체육관광부 자료를 토대로 산출한 1천 여 개의 지역 축제 중 25개 축제가 전통복식 착용 캐릭터를 보유하고 있었으며 이 중 지자체와 축제 캐릭터가 일치하는 사례는 총 13건이었다. 지자체와 지역 축제 캐릭터의 전통복식에서 드러나는 가장 큰 문제는 고증의 부재(不在)와 표현의 부정확성에 있다. 이는 크게 캐릭터와 복식의 시대성 불일치, 전통복식 세부 형태 표현 오류, 착용 방식 묘사 및 사용상의 오류로 압축된다. 전통복식은 문화적 소산으로서 그 연원이 분명하고 뚜렷한 것이며 캐릭터의 전통적 이미지를 한층 공고히 하기 위한 중요한 수단이라는 점에서 고증의 필요성을 인식해야 한다. 전통복식을 착용한 캐릭터를 제작･활용하는 데 있어서 무엇보다 필요한 것은 캐릭터 개발 기획의 체계화와 전문적인 고증, 캐릭터 사용 단계에서의 오류를 최소화하기 위한 응용 모델 확보, 캐릭터 사용 범위 확대를 위한 포맷을 마련하는 것이며, 캐릭터의 역사성과 복식에 관한 합리적 고증을 위한 공개자료 활용 방법도 고려해볼 만하다. 이와 같은 대안들은 지자체와 지역 축제에서 전통복식을 착용한 캐릭터를 제작･활용하고자 할 때 현실적이고 유효한 지표가 될 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

This study is intended to critically review the problems which were present in the utilization and historical research of Korean traditional clothing worn by characters in local government festivals and regional private counterparts. It also addresses the problems in the combination and expression of the clothing and then analyzes them practically to find possibilities of complementing and solving the problems. The survey of characters which wear Korean traditional clothing in local government events and regional private counterparts has found that sixty-four out of one hundred and seventy nine local governments across the nation have their characters wear Korean traditional clothing. The statistics by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism show that there are one thousand regional festive events across the nation. Twenty five of those events have their characters wear Korean traditional clothing. There are thirteen cases in which local government events and their regional private counterparts have the same characters. The biggest problem with Korean traditional clothing worn in local government events and regional private counterparts is that there is no historical research on the traditional clothing worn by the characters of the regional festivals, and that the clothing is not worn in a proper way. There are various errors such as anachronisms between characters and their traditional clothing, errors in detailed patterns of traditional clothing, and mistakes in describing how to wear traditional clothing and in its practical use. It should be perceived that Korean traditional clothing must require historical research in that the traditional clothing represents culture, its origin is clearly evident and distinct, and it is used as an important means of making characters’ traditional images conspicuous. There are several points that are most needed in making and utilizing characters which wear traditional clothing. Planning to develop characters should be systemized and go through historical research. Then, application models should be secured to minimize mistakes in the stage of utilizing characters. Formats to expand the range of using characters should be prepared. It is advisable that published materials be used to prove the historicity of characters and do historical research on the clothing they wear. These suggestions mentioned above are sure to be practical and valid guides to making and utilizing characters wearing Korean traditional clothing for local government festive events and regional private counterparts.
