한시 속 이름 찾기 - 인명시(人名詩)와 약명시(藥名詩)를 중심으로 (Seeking Names in Chinese Poetry -Focusing on Inmyeongsi (Personal Name Poetry) and Yakmyeongsi (Medicine Name Poetry)-)

초록

본고는 인명시와 약명시를 중심으로, 우리나라 문단 내에서의 창작 현황과 구체적인 작법을 살펴보고, 고난도의 작법과 당대 희작이라는 부정적 인식에도 불구하고 오랜 세월 면면히 향유될 수 있었던 동인을 가늠해보려는 의도로 작성되었다. 인명시는 매 구 사람의 姓名을, 약명시는 약재의 이름을 삽입하여 지은 시로, 이 두 시체는 한자의 중의적(重義的) 특성을 십분 활용한 양식으로 여느 잡명시(雜名詩)와는 달리 2자 혹은 3자로 조합된 명칭이 삽입된다는 공통점을 지니고 있다. 인명시의 경우 삽입형과 수수께끼형이, 약명시는 삽입형만이 구현되었는데, 삽입형은 이름이나 자호(字號)를 싯구에 그대로 삽입하여 문면에 노출시키는 방식이고, 수수께끼형은 성명이나 자호가 싯구 풀이를 통해 드러나도록 싯구 속에 숨겨두는 방식을 의미한다. 이 두 시체는 2자 이상의 어휘 삽입으로 인해 작법이 일부 변용되는 등 고정되어 있지 않다.
이렇듯 여느 정체시(正體詩)에 비해 작법이 까다로왔던 비주류 양식이었음에도 불구하고, 고려시대부터 근대에 이르기까지 지속적으로 창작되어 왔던 것은, 이러한 작시(作詩)형태가 놀이의 성격을 지니고 있기 때문이다. 인명시와 약명시를 비롯한 잡체시는 한시 창작의 기본 요건에다 예외없이 특정한 규칙을 이중으로 부가하는데, 이러한 규칙의 제정과 준수는 바로 놀이의 핵심 요소이기 때문이다. 실제 조선 문인들의 놀이 문화에 한시가 빠지지 않았고, 작시 경쟁에서 우위를 차지하기 위해 자신의 시재를 과시하는 데에 특수한 형태의 잡체시가 활용된 사례를 쉽게 확인할 수 있다. 이에 인명시와 약명시는 작품으로서의 문학성 여부를 논하기 보다, 전근대 지식인 사회의 놀이문화의 산물로 볼 필요가 있으며, 이를 위해 한시 창작을 문화 행위의 일환으로 접근하려는 변환적 사고가 요구된다.

영어초록

This paper was written to examine the present state of creation and detailed writing techniques in Korean literary world and guess the driver of creation, which could be unceasingly enjoyed for a long period of time despite the high-level writing techniques and the negative recognition as light literature of those days, focusing on Inmyeongsi (personal name poetry) and Yakmyeongsi (medicine name poetry). Inmyeongsi and Yakmyeongsi contained personal names and medicine names respectively in each phrase. These two types of poetry made full use of ambiguity of Chinese characters and unlike other Japmyeongsi (miscellaneous name poetry), these both included two- or three-character names. Inmyeongsi adopted an insertion type and a riddle type, whereas Yakmyeongsi only adopted an insertion type. The insertion type is to expose names or alias names on the literary surface by inserting them into verses and the riddle type is to hide names or alias names in the literary surface so they can be exposed through interpretation of verses. These two types of poetry were flexibly applied according to the situations, with partial transformation of writing techniques, caused by insertion of vocabulary consisting of two characters or above. The reason why these two types of poetry had been created constantly from the Koryo Dynastry to modern times in spite of the non-mainstream styles, which were hard to write is this versification was a kind of amusing play. Japchesi (miscellaneous handwriting-style poetry), including Inmyeongsi and Yakmyeongsi had double writing techniques, in addition to the basic requirements for Chinese poetry creation and the rule making and compliance was the key element of play. Actually, Chinese poetry always existed in the recreation culture of Joseon writers and it is easily found that a special type of Japchesi was used to hold a dominant position in the verse-making competition and show off their poetic genius. In this sense, Inmyeongsi and Yakmyeongsi need to be regarded as products of the recreation culture of the pre-modern intellectuals’ society rather than being discussed over their literary value as pieces of work. Accordingly, there is a desperate need for an attempt to consider creation of Chinese poetry as part of cultural act.
