한국 영화 속 건축 공간 스토리텔링 연구 -영화 ‘기생충’을 중심으로- (A Study of the Contribution of Architectural Space to the Plot Narrative in South Korean Cinema -centered on the film ‘Parasite’-)

초록

건축 공간은 영화와 마찬가지로, 동적 이미지와 생활공간, 스토리텔링으로 구성되어 있다.(Bruno, 1992) 서사예술에서 영화가 중요한 이유는 영화가 영상도구에서 이야기의 수단으로 전환되는 가운데영화의 공간적 관념에 변화가 일어나면서 영화 속 건축공간에 대한 서사적 요구가 더욱 두드러졌기때문이다. 본고의 연구목적은 한국영화 <기생충> 속 주요 건축공간을 분석하여 영화 속 건축공간과서사공간의 특징, 인물에 대한 건축공간의 설정 방식, 건축공간의 은유적 특징을 분석하여 학술적 가치와 이론적 가치를 갖고 있다는 점에서 향후 영화 속 건축공간의 디자인에 이론적 근거를 제공하였다. 본 연구의 연구 방법은 한국 영화 중 대표적인 건축 공간의 특징을 종합하여 공간서사학, 공간시학, 지각현상학의 이론을 바탕으로 서사, 시각, 표현방법의 관점에서 영화 <기생충> 스토리텔링에 대한 건축공간의 영향을 분석하였다. 연구 내용은 서사학과 공간이론의 관점에서 <기생충>을 사례로, <기생충> 속 서사공간을 연구대상으로 설정하여 건축공간의 구조, 표현, 은유를 통해 건축 공간의 서사 방식과 이로 인해 형성된 서사공간의 특징을 도출하였다. <기생충>에서는 다양한 서사적 건축공간과 종심공간, 평면공간, 대비공간 등 공간 구성 방식은 스토리텔링을 위한 중요한 역할을 하였다. 이에 <기생충>으로 대표되는 건축공간은 영화의 스토리를 이끄는 영화의 서사 방식으로서, 사회적 소재와 현실적 소재를 다루는 영화에 매우 유용하다는 결론을 도출하였다. 그리고 전통적인 영화의 서사방식에 건축공간 서사를 가미하면 영화의 스토리를 더욱 흥미롭게 할 수 있고 인물의 이미지와 서사방식이 더욱 다양해지면서 세계 영화예술 발전에 매우 중요한 시사점을 남길 것이다.

영어초록

The architectural space, like the film, consists of a dynamic image, a living space and a storyline (Bruno, 1992). An important sign that cinema has become a narrative art is the shift from being a tool for representing images to a means of representing stories, and the important reason for this shift is the changing concept of cinematic space, and the narrative requirements for the architectural space in the film are even more prominent. South Korean cinema is dominated by socially realistic films. This kind of films confronts and analyzes the problems of contemporary Korean social life, strips out and amplifies the desperate cruelty of the dark side of the society, gives the audience a very powerful touch. ‘Parasite’, one of the iconic films, won four awards at the 92nd Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best International Film. Bong Joon-ho, a sociologist, uses architectural space as a metaphor for the society by building a binary narrative space and constructing class symbols, outlining the different living spaces of upper-class and lower-class families. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the architectural space in South Korean cinema represented by ‘Parasite’, by summarizing the narrative style of architectural space in film, the influence of architectural space on character traits and the metaphorical characteristics of architectural space. The research method is to summarize the characteristics of representative architectural spaces by the viewing of Korean films, based on the theories of spatial narrative, spatial poetics and perceptual phenomenology, taking the architectural space in the film ‘Parasite’ as the study subject, exploring the influence of architectural space on the plot of Korean films in terms of the spatial composition of architectural space, the representation of light and shadow in architectural space, and the metaphor of architectural space, studying the architectural spatial narrative practices in Korean cinema and the characteristics of the narrative space they form. It also summarizes the characteristics and forms of the narrative of architectural space in Korean cinema, providing a reference basis for the design of architectural space in films in the future.
