초록

클리셰(Cliché)는 지배적 이데올로기에서 벗어나지 않는 범위에서 대중의 욕망이 투사되는 것을 의미한다. 하지만 로맨스가 지배이데올로기인 가부장적인 가족 담론과 고정화된 젠더 개념에 순응하는 것만은 아니다. 남녀주인공이 처한 어려움과 역경은 기존의 지배이데올로기에 대한 매혹과 거부, 지배층의 이해관계를 보편화시키려는 시도와 피지배층의 저항 사이에서 투쟁하는 인물들을 통해 전복적 상상력을 보여주기도 한다.
할리퀸의 마스터플롯은 여성주인공이 초점화되어 있지만, 서사의 전개는 남성주인공이 전개한다. 여성이 사회적 어려움을 극복하는데 여전히 능력 있는 남성의 구애라는 사다리가 필요하고, 이를 성취하기 위해서는 가부장제가 요구하는 여성성을 전제로 섹슈얼한 매력을 가진 자여야 했다. 하지만 할리퀸 이후 인터넷소설의 로맨스부터는 변화가 일기 시작했다. 2000년대 이후 로맨스 서사의 클리셰는 수동성과 연약함, 그리고 인내와 순종을 미덕으로 이상화되었던 여성상에 균열을 만들었다. 억압적인 현실에서 구원해줄 계층 사다리 역할의 남성주인공도 절대적 우위의 위치에서 좀 더 범접 가능한 구체성과 현실성을 갖기 시작하면서 자기 행동의 이유와 낭만적 사랑을 위한 헌신의 타당성을 부여하는 서사 비중이 확대되었다. 여성주인공은 독자가 감정이입하고 동일시할 수 있는 조건의 여성으로 변화하면서 뛰어난 외모가 아닌 개성과 매력, 그리고 낭만적 사랑을 향한 적극성으로 서사를 이끄는 힘을 얻어 가고 있다. 최근 로맨스 웹소설에서 인기 있는 키워드인 조신남이나 동정남, 대형견남은 젠더 고정성에 균열을 내며 최근 여성 독자들이 어떤 남성성을 원하는지 그 변화된 지점을 보여준다. 이런 변화의 징조는 여성주인공의 클리셰를 통해서도 확인된다. 여성주인공 역시 남성주인공과 비슷하게 캐릭터가 다양해지고, 성별화된 젠더의 고정성에서 점차 벗어나는 경향을 보인다. 전통적인 클리셰의 여성주인공이 여전히 존재하긴 하지만 여성캐릭터를 특징화하는 키워드는 무척 다양해졌다.
더불어, 결혼에 대한 독자의 욕망도 바뀐 상황이다. 결혼은 필요에 따라 할 수 있는 것이고 쉽게 행해진다. 결혼이 먼저고 사랑이 뒤인 경우도 많다. 이는 이미 결론을 알고 도입부를 압축시켜 바로 본론으로 서사진행을 빠르게 하기 위한 서사전략으로 보인다. 그리고 여성은 이제 억울하게 당하고만 있지 않다. 꼭 복수한다. 나아가 다양한 사랑의 경험을 위해 수많은 모험을 감행하기도 한다. 그리고 이제 섹슈얼리티적으로도 낭만적 사랑에 앞서는 육체적 쾌락을 인정하고 있다. 이런 모든 것들이 과거 로맨스를 둘러싼 클리셰가 변함을 보여주고, 이는 여성 독자들의 변화된 기대지평을 보여주고 있다.

Cliché, which means stale dialogue, conventional story, and typical tricks or expressions, reflects the public's desire for the standard of common sense, morality, and the dominant ideology at that time. For a long time, the male and female protagonists presented the ideal of overcoming adversity, achieving love, and seeing the happiness of marriage as a "happy ending." However, romance does not only conform to patriarchal family discourse and stereotyped gender concepts, which are dominant ideologies. The difficulties and adversity faced by male and female protagonists also show subversive imagination through characters fighting between fascination and rejection of existing ruling ideology, attempts to generalize the ruling class's interests, and resistance of the governed class. In particular, since romance is a popular female narrative, the changes in Cliché show modern female readers' desire to read and perceptions of "romantic love," "marriage," and their ideal femininity and masculinity have changed.
Harley Queen's master plot is focused on the female protagonist, but the male protagonist leads the development of the narrative. Because women still need the help of the courtship of capable men to overcome social difficulties, and in order to achieve it, female characters have to have a sexual charm on the premise of the femininity that is required by the patriarchy. However, after Harley Queen, the romance of Internet novels began to change. There are additional narratives for male characters to explain their actions and words weakening men's absolute power. In the romance of the Internet novel, a more active female character, who is not passive in love, and a warm-hearted male character (Tsundere), who cares about the female main character with a cold attitude, begin to appear.
Since the 2000s, Cliché in the romance narrative has created cracks in the image of women who have idealized passivity, vulnerability, patience, and obedience. The male protagonist, who plays the role of a hierarchical ladder to save from oppressive reality, also begins to have more accessible specificity and reality in an absolute superior position, expanding the proportion of narratives that give reasons for his actions and the validity of dedication for romantic love. As the female protagonist changes into a woman with conditions in which readers can empathize and identify, she is gaining the power to lead the narrative with her individuality, charm, and aggression toward romantic love, not her outstanding appearance. Recently, popular keywords such as Cho Shin Nam, Dong Jung Nam, and Dae Hyung Gyun Nam have broken away from the formula of the existing romance and cracked gender fixation of gender. Signs of this change are also confirmed through the female protagonist's cliché. Female protagonists diversify their characteristics, like male protagonists, and gradually deviate from the gender-based stereotype. Although the traditional cliché of female protagonists still exists, the keywords that characterize female characters have become diverse.
In addition, the reader's desire for marriage has changed. Marriage can be done as needed and easily happen. In many cases, marriage comes first, and love follows. It is a narrative strategy for dramatic and rapid development, such as knowing the conclusion and compressing the introduction to speed up the transition to the main subject. Women are no longer being unjustified, and they must take revenge. Furthermore, they go through numerous adventures for various love experiences. Moreover, now, they recognize physical pleasure before romantic love sexually. All of these things show the change of cliché in the past romance, which can be a barometer of the changed expectation of female readers.
