여성 SF 소설의 테크노피아와 소수자 문학 (Technopia of Feminist SF Novel and Minority Literature)

초록

이 연구의 목적은 한국 여성 SF 문학에 재현된 젠더 혁신적 여성 주체를 분석하고 이들이 소수자로서의 자기를 재의미화하는 양상과 재구성하는 방식에 의미를 부여하는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 발전된 기술과학 시대의 윤리적 공동체를 ‘테크노피아’라고 명명한다. 포스트휴머니즘이 본질적으로 포스트모더니즘에 대한 반성과 휴머니즘에 대한 성찰을 요구하는 것이라면, 여성 SF 문학은 테크노피아의 재현을 통해 적극적으로 포스트휴머니즘의 윤리적 실천을 위한 대안적 미래를 구상하는 것이라고 할 수 있다.
최근의 여성 SF 작품에서 사이보그 여성 주체는 인간과 로봇, 남성과 여성, 이성애와 동성애의 경계와 구분을 넘나들면서 이분법적 젠더 체계를 내파하는 허구의 산물이면서 동시에 사회적 실재이다. 여성 SF 문학에서 여성의 생물학적 신체를 초월하게 되는 사이보그 여성 주체는 ‘여성’이라는 보편적 개념을 탈피함으로써 동시에 타자, 객체라는 소외를 벗어날 수 있다고 본다. 또한 포스트바디로써 인간의 생물학적 한계를 초월하는 기능적 향상과 생명 연장의 꿈을 실현한다. 아울러 여성 SF 문학에서 하이테크놀로지는 유기체적 몸을 기술적으로 변형, 개조하고 있으며 그에 따라 젠더 역시 재구축이 가능하다는 것을 예견한다. 그러나 여성 SF 문학의 테크노피아는 기술과학의 발전에도 불구하고 남성중심적 생명 정치가 권력으로 작동하는 세계라면, 여성의 몸은 구성적 소외로써 여전히 심각한 사회문제로 남게 될 것이라고 경고한다.
여성 SF 작가의 글쓰기는 공동체에 대한 책임이며 실천적 참여이다. 그들의 테크노피아가 시도하는 새로운 방식의 윤리적 성찰과 대안적 미래의 구상은 현대 사회의 독자들에게도 삶의 방향성을 제시하는 문학적 소명을 충실히 따른다고 하겠다.

영어초록

This study aims to analyze the gender-innovative female subject represented in the SF literature by Korean women and impart the meaning to the way they re-signify and reconstruct themselves as minorities. In this research, an ethical community of the advanced technological era is called ‘Technopia’. Assuming posthumanism essentially calls for introspection on postmodernism and reflection on humanism, it may be said that feminist SF literature is the thing to actively conceive the alternative future for the ethical practice of posthumanism through the representation of Technopia.
Posthumanism of the feminist SF literature is embodied by ‘talking’ to minorities. Rather than objectifying minorities, their lives are represented by true ‘talking’ where they are recognized as the subject and their specific histories and situations are understood. So to speak, in the recent feminist SF literature, the subject of ‘cyborg-becoming’ attempts new reflection on what life is. It allows minorities culturally otherized to construct their place and makes their lives a narrative so shows the relationship, communication and solidarity with minorities. It calls anthropocentricism into question and imagines not humans as a single specified being but humans as the world where different identities are embodied.
Firstly, in the feminist SF literature, the female cyborg subject transcending a female biological body can escape from the alienation as the other and the object by breaking away from the common concept of a ‘woman’. In addition, as a postbody, it achieves a dream of life prolongation with the functional improvement to go beyond the human biological limits. However, Technopia in the feminist SF literature is warning that a female body is still forced to remain a serious social issue through the structural alienation unless changes in the relations with others and machines are presupposed. Finally, in the feminist SF literature, high technology is transforming and adapting an organic body technically and it results in reconstruction of gender. In the recent feminist SF works, female cyborg subject is both fictional product and social reality that is crossing the boundaries and divisions between human and robot, male and female, and heterosexual and homosexual and making the dichotomous gender system imploded.
Writing by female SF writers is the responsibility for a community and practical engagement. A new way of ethical reflection and conception of the alternative future attempted by their Technopia faithfully follows the literary calling to present a direction of life to readers in a modern society.
