한ㆍ중ㆍ일 세시풍속의 비교연구를 위한 제언 (Some Suggestions for the Comparative Study on Annual Customs and Festivals in Korea, China, and Japan)

초록

집단적으로 매년 동일한 역순(曆順)에 따라 동일 양식의 관습적 의례가 되풀이 되는 전승행사를 세시풍속이라 한다. 세시라는 말에는 두 가지 의미가 있다. 하나는 ‘설’이란 뜻이고 다른 하나는 ‘철에 따라 행하는 민속적인 의례’라는 뜻이다. 일반적으로 ‘설’이라는 한정된 의미보다 후자의 의미로 더욱 널리 쓰이고 있으며, 이렇게 일 년 동안 철에 따라 행하는 민속적인 행사를 세시풍속이라고 한다. 한중일 삼국은 같은 농경문화이면서 한자문화권이기 때문에 유사한 문화가 많다. 그러나 세밀히 들여다보면 상이한 점도 많이 발견할 수 있다. 이러한 공통점과 상이점을 찾아내어 한국 세시풍속의 정체성을 밝히는데 그 목적이 있다.
지금까지 한국세시풍속의 연구과정을 돌아보고 또한 일본과 중국의 사례를 가능한 한 많이 축적하여 비교연구의 필요성을 느낀다. 이 문제를 해결하는 데는 적어도 다음 4가지 과제를 밟아나가야 할 것이다.
첫째로 한국인의 시간관에 대한 연구가 있어야 한다.
둘째로 세시풍속과 신앙의례의 관계성에 관한 문제를 해결해야 한다.
셋째로 세시풍속과 농경생활의 문제가 체계적으로 정리되어야 한다.
끝으로 세시풍속 전체를 통해서 볼 때 지역성과 사회성에 대한 연구가 진행되어야 한다.

영어초록

The annual customs and festivals may be defined as transmitting practices which the same pattern of traditional rite is repeated every year collectively according to the chronological order.
The word of annual customs and festivals(세시) implies two kinds of meaning;
One means the New Year(설), and the other does folkloric rites or festivals performing on a seasonal basis. It is rather widely used as the meaning of the latter than the definite meaning of the New Year(설), and it is called the annual customs and festivals(세시풍속) that folkloristic practices performing on a seasonal basis all through the year.
Since the three countries such as Korea, China, and Japan are in the area of the same agricultural culture as well as the use of chinese characters, similar culture can often be found among them. However, if you look carefully into them in detail, you can also find many differences among those three countries. Finding these commonness and differences among them is aimed to seek for the identity of Korean annual customs and festivals.
It is necessary to make further comparative study by reviewing not only the study process of annual customs and festivals of Korea up to the present but also those of China and Japan as well.
In order to solve these problems, you will have to take four steps of the following tasks;
First, you should have a study on the sense of time of Korean people.
Second, you should try to solve the problem on the correlation between the annual customs and festivals, and other religious rituals or rites.
Third, you should make systemize the tasks for the annual customs and festivals, and agricultural life.
Finally, you should make ongoing study on the characteristics of region as well as of community.
