영화 [세자매]에 나타난 중독과 치유 : 자해, 종교, 술 (Addiction and Healing in the Movie [Three Sisters]: Self-harm, Religion, Alcohol)

초록

현대인들이 경험하는 중독의 문제는 알코올 등의 물질-관련장애와 도박 등의 비물질-관련 장애로 구분되어 논의되며, 중독에 대한 연구는 중독자뿐만 아니라 중독자 가정과 자녀들에 대한 연구로 확장되어 왔다. 중독자 자녀들의 경우는 중독으로 인한 방임과 학대의 경험이 동반된다는 점에서 중복피해에 대한 우려가 있으며, 중독과 폭력의 문제가 세대 간 전이 현상을 보인다는 점에서 심각성이 제기되기도 한다. 중독 가정에서 성장한 자녀들이 보일 수 있는 중독과 폭력의 문제가 개별적 주제들로 연구되어 왔다면, 본 사례연구는 영화 <세자매>의 등장인물들을 바탕으로 중독 및 폭력가정의 자녀들이 보일 수 있는 중독의 문제들을 논의한다.
본 연구는 중독 및 폭력가정에서 성장한 세 자매의 자해행동, 완벽주의를 바탕으로 한 종교적 행위, 문제적 음주를 중독의 관점으로 살펴보고, 이들의 치유를 위한 목회상담의 개입방법을 제시한다. 세 자매는 아버지의 술, 폭력, 외도로 인해 오랫동안 고통받아온 가정폭력 피해자이자 복합외상 생존자이며 중독가정의 동반의존자일 수 있다는 것을 제시하고, 40대 중년 여성인 세 자매가 치유되지 않은 고통과 상처를 중재하기 위해 자해, 완벽주의, 종교, 술을 사용하고 있다고 논의한다. 하지만 이러한 중독적 행위를 단순히 중독이라는 병명이나 문제적 행위로만이 간주하는 것이 아닌 이들이 경험한 “고통의 질”(a quality of suffering)로 이해할 필요가 있다고 제시하며, 세 자매의 치유를 위한 목회상담적 제언으로 첫째 원가족에 의한 상처를 표현하고 자책에서 벗어나기, 둘째 생존 전략을 경청하고 회복탄력성을 증진하기, 셋째 복합 정체성을 이해하고 돌보기, 넷째 중독치유를 위한 갈망다루기와 갈등대처능력 향상시키기, 다섯째 개인과 가정의 문제는 교회와 사회의 문제임을 인식하기를 제시한다. 이러한 논의는 중독 및 폭력가정의 자녀들이 보이는 동반의존과 복합 외상을 이해하는데 도움을 제공하며, 중독 및 폭력가정의 자녀들의 자해행동, 완벽주의와 종교적 행위, 문제적 음주에 대한 사례논의로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

The problems of addiction experienced by modern people are divided into substance-related disorders such as alcohol and non-substance-related disorders such as gambling, and research on addiction problems has focused not only on addicts, but has also extended to addicts’ families and their children. In terms of children of addicts, concerns have been raised about the overlapping risk of neglect and abuse in an environment of addiction and the higher susceptibility of intergenerational transfer of addiction along with violence. While most studies have discussed the development of addiction problems in children exposed to addiction and violence in families in an individual way, this case study uses characters of the movie <Three Sisters> to present the addiction issues of adult-children who grew up in families with addition and domestic violence with an integrative perspective.
This study, based on the movie <Three Sisters>, reflects on self-harm behaviors, religious activities based on perfectionism, and drinking problem of three sisters who have grown up in a family with addiction and domestic violence, from the point of view of addiction. This study presents that three sisters are considered as victims of abusive family, survivors of complex trauma, and codependents of addicted family, who have been suffered for a long time due to their father’s problems with drinking problem, abusive behaviors, and extramarital relationship, and they who now as middle-aged women try to cope with self-harm, perfectionism, religion, and alcohol in dealing with their life long suffering and unhealed wounded heart. Based on the perspective that their addictive behaviors are not only be simply labeled as pathology and problem behaviors, but also are understood as a means of naming “a quality of suffering” and survival strategies of them, in order for three sisters’ healing based on the pastoral counseling perspective, this study suggests, first, to help three sisters to express their wounded heart and free from self-blame; second, to pay attention to their survival skills and empower their resilience; third, to provide care based on understanding their complex identities; fourth, to improve their coping skills with addiction and conflict; and finally, to recognize the partial responsibility of Korean churches and society in the process of developing or overcoming addiction. three sisters’ matters not only their own and their family, but also Korean churches and society. The study would be helpful both to understand codependency and complex trauma presented in children of addicted and abusive family and to discuss an intervention skills for adult-children with addiction problems through this case.
