입센의 한・일 수용과 그 의미– ‘개인’의 발견, 자주성과 관련하여 – (Receiving Henrik Ibsen in Korea and Japan and Its Significance – In Relation to Discovery of Individual and Independence –)

초록

本稿では近代劇の創始者であるイプセン(Henrik Ibsen)の代表作『人形の家』(1879)をはじめ、彼の文學と思想が日本と韓國にどのように受容されたかを考察し、その影響として<個人(individual)>の發見と<個人主義>, <自主性(Autonomy)>の展開等について考えてみた。これまでに部分的に調べられていたイプセンの紹介、及び翻譯・移入の略史の誤植などを訂正、綜合してより明確に再整理した。1889年イプセンの名を初めて日本(或は、東アジア)へ紹介した森鴎外は、『ジョン・ガブリエル・ボルクマン』(1909年、『読売新聞』掲載・自由劇場、イプセン劇初公演)と『ノラ』、『幽靈』等を翻訳し、「シュレンテルの評-ノラ解題-」を翻譯揭載する等、東アジアにおけるイプセン受容に主要な役割を果たしたにも拘らず、今まで韓国ではほとんど硏究が行われていなかった。まず、イプセンの作品が近代草創期に坪内逍遙や島村抱月等に依って、日本に紹介された經緯を略述し、森鴎外を中心にして、日本の近代作家がどのように受容したか、『靑年』(1909-1910)と『三四郎』(1908), 『私の個人主義』(1914)等の小說と評論を調べた。その理由は鴎外等のイプセン受容がイプセン死後(1906년)のイプセン熱に影響を與え、同時に韓國の東京留學生たちと重なる時期でもあったからである。韓国の先行硏究は主に初期のイプセン作品の翻譯と受容について、『人形の家』を中心にしたり、<女性解放>や<ゼンダ->等と關聯づけて扱われていた。イプセン導入の過程において鴎外が果たした役割に比べ、硏究が微微たるものであるのに着眼して、鴎外を中心として考察し、同時代に実際東京に留學中であった、韓國の近代文學初期に活躍した李光洙等とも關聯づけてみた。イプセンの韓國への受容・傳播する過程で、羅惠錫の評論「理想的な婦人」(1914)や、廉想燮の「至上善の為に」(1922)等を通して、韓國に適用した<自主性>や国の<自主独立>の主張の意義を捉え、近代的な自我の覺醒と個人の發見、個人主義、個性の發現に対する自覺と当時の現実との苦闘をも考えてみた。

영어초록

In this paper, I examine the process of receiving Henrik Ibsen's literature and histhought in Japan and Korea and consider the discovery of ‘individual', the influenceof 'individualism,’ and the development of 'autonomy' as its ripple effects. Ibsen isthe founder of the modern theater and A Doll’s House (1879) is his representativeof the social drama.
This paper integrates and rearranges more clearly Ibsen’s biography and thetranslation history of his works that have been introduced only partly. In 1889, MoriOgai (森鴎外) first introduced Ibsen to Japan and East Asia and also translated JohnGabriel Borkman, which was the first Ibsen’s work performed in Free Theater in1909 and further translated and published critical works such as Nora, Ghosts, andInterpreting Nora authored by Schurenter. Although Mori Ogai played a major rolein accepting Ibsen in Asia, he has been rarely discussed in the previous studies.
I shortly summarize how Ibsen's works were introduced to Japan by TsubouchiShoyo and Shimamura Hogetsu in the early days of the modern era, and review theworks such as Youth (1909-1910), San Siro (1908), and My Individualism (1914) inorder to consider how the modern representative writers such as Mori Ogai andNatsume Soseki accept and embrace Ibsen. I focus on Ogai as the center of study,referring to Soseki and relating Lee, Kwangsoo.
In the process of receiving and disseminating Ibsen to Korea, I not only graspthe significance of 'independence' accepted by Korea through Na, Hye-seok's IdealWife (1914), and Yeom, Sang-Seop’s For the Highest Good(1922), but also examinethe themes such as the awakening of the modern self, the awareness and the anxietyof discovery of individual, individualism, and the manifestation of personality.
