초록

This paper started from extremely private comprehension of Taiwanese director Hsiao-Hsien Hou's 2015 new film The Assassin. From beginning to end of the movie, main character Nie Yinniang's 'heart' became an issue. However, the movie doesn't give any expression or explanation for her. Hence, this paper traced Nie Yinniang's heart fluttering and the sympathies, and the reconstructed Nie Yinniang's 'heart'. First of all, Nie Yinniang's heart is a broken heart with pain of loss because she was betrayed and left. However, Nie Yinniang sublimated the feelings caused by the pain of loss, such as denial, anger or despair, in compassion where pain in other people was inferred from pain in her, not projecting out the feelings. Therefore, second, Nie Yinniang's mind is compassionate heart towards other people. This compassion is resolute ethical decision and choice to protect other people though she sacrificed herself. Nie Yinniang having compassion power that extends pain in her also to pain in other people is thoroughly governed by the law of nature and the rhythm of nature. As a result, Nie Yinniang's mind shares the life with the order of nature, the rhythm of nature and the time of nature, transcending the time of human beings and the order of human beings. The film The Assassin asks about ethical proposition of what nobility of human beings will be left and what will be left in the sublimity of nature (a great length of history) which transcends the cycle of human life by making Nie Yinniang's such mind become an issue.
