섬사람들의 노동요를 통해 본 경제활동의 양상과 도서문화의 특징 (The Aspect of Economic Activity and the Characteristics of Island Culture in Labor Songs of Island Residents)

초록

이 논문은 암태도 <가마 메는 소리>, 조도군도 ≪닻배소리≫<그물 당기는 소리>, 그리고 임자도의 <가래소리> 등 노동요를, 교역의 관점에서 노동요의 전개를 살폈다. 즉 구비문학은 형성, 유통의 구조이고, 경제학은 획득, 이용의 구조라는 점에서 서로 만난다. 섬사람들은 이 지점에서 도붓장사, 즉 해산물로 양식, 땔감, 볏짚을 바꾸는 경제행위를 한다. 그런데 교역품인 도붓물품을 마련하는 과정과 각 단계의 변화에 초점을 두고, 여기에서 창조되는 노동요의 구비연행을 통해 섬경제의 역동성을 살핀 것이다.
조도군도 사람들은 섬이 지니는 자원의 한계를 극복하기 위해 교역행위인 도붓장사를 간다. 여기에서 양식, 땔감, 볏짚 등을 각각 A->B>C->D단계, A->B단계, A->B단계 등으로 바꿔 오기 위해 도붓물품인 해산물을 획득․이용하는 과정이 흥미롭다. 교역물을 마련하는 과정에서 안○○씨(남, 81, 1933년생)는 미역따기 품팔이->강달어->양식, 한관배(남, 70, 1944년생)는 고구마와 술을 제공하기->받은 오징어를 말려 팔기->양식, 그리고 장○○씨(여, 76, 1938년생)는 수수, 좁쌀로 엿만들기->엿장수로 미역얻어오기->미역과 양식을 바꿔오기 등을 했다. 땔감이 너무 귀해 혼인 기피 이야기가 전하는 대마도 박몽용(남, 79, 1935년생)은 하조도 ‘모래개’에 있는 박씨 소유 깎음에서 소작한 땔감을 구해 왔다. 강○○씨(남, 75, 1939년생)는 ‘뒤포리를 가지고 볏짚 받으러 갔’다가 왔다.
노동요인 <가마 메는 소리>는 신안군 암태면 추포도 사람들이 혼인길에 2명의 가마꾼들이 멘 가마를 타고 노두를 건널 때, 음으로 박자를 맞추면서 한 줄로 하는 것이다. 도붓물품의 마련과정에서 ≪닻배소리≫<그물 당기는 소리>는 진도군 조도군도 사람들이 전통지식을 활용한 민속행위인 조기잡이를 할 때, 15명의 닻배에서 그물을 당기면서 음으로 박자를 맞추면서 하는 소리이다. 그리고 <가래소리>는 신안군 임자면 광산마을 사람들이 논농사를 지을 때, 3명의 가래꾼들이 고랑인 ‘치똘’의 모래를 치우면서 음으로 박자를 맞추면서 선후창으로 하는 것이다. 이처럼 섬사람들은 섬에서 획득한 가마와 닻배, 그리고 가래 등의 도구를 삶에 이용하면서 박자를 맞추어 힘의 분산을 막고 그 역동력을 노동요인 구비전승물로 형성․유통시키는 것이다.
섬의 노동요는 경제행위를 풀이한 섬사람들의 구비전승물로서, 역사․지리․사회(경제)상 섬공간의 특성이 반영되고, 섬사람들의 의식이 투영된 소리라는 특징이 있다. <가마 메는 소리>는 노둣길의 관리로 인해 유지되고, ≪닻배소리≫<그물 당기는 소리>는 큰 닻배그물로 인해 지켜지는 소리이기 때문이다. 그리고 <가래소리>는 봄에 20일~한 달 동안 바람에 의해 이동된 고랑의 모래와 싸우면서 나오는 소리이기 때문이다.

영어초록

This study is to explore the development of labor songs in <the Song of carrying a palanquin> of Amtae-do, the ≪Song of an anchor boat≫<Song of hauling in a net> of Jodo Islands and <the Song of a spade> of Imja-do, from the perspective of trade. That is, oral literature is the structure of formation and distribution, and economics is the structure of acquisition and use and they meet with each other in one point. Islanders do peddling activities on the point, which meas that they do economic activities by exchanging seafood with food, firewood and straws. On the other hand, this paper focused on the process of getting peddling articles, which are used as trading goods, and on the stage-specific changes in the process, and investigated the dynamics of island economy through the oral narration of labor songs which have been created here on the point.
The islanders do peddling as an exchange activity in order to overcome the limitation of resources in the island. It is interesting to see the activities of acquiring and using seafood to exchange food, firewood and straws in the process of A→B>C→D, A→B and A→B. Mr Ahn (Male, 81, born in 1933) did economic activities of gathering brown seaweeds→croaker→food; Han, Gwanbae (Male, 70, born in 1944) of providing sweet potatoes and drinks→drying and selling squids→food; and Mr Jang (Female, 76, born in 1938) of making taffy with sorghum and millet→getting brown seaweeds by selling taffies→exchanging brown seaweeds with food. Park, Mongyong (Male, 79, born in 1935) in Daema-do, where the marriage evasion story has been inherited due to the lack of firewood, got firewood from the ‘Moregae’ of Hajo-do, which belongs to him, where he grew trees for firewood. Mr Gang (Male, 75, born in 1939) went and got back to exchange large-eyed herrings with a stack of straws.
<the Song of carrying a palanquin> is sung in Chupo-do, Amtae-myeon, Shinan-gun by two palanquin bearers to the rhythm and tones when they crossed over seawalls. The ≪Song of an anchor boat≫<Song of hauling in a net> is sung by people of Jodo Islands, Jindo-gun when they catch fish in their traditional way in which they sing the song to the rhythm and tones while hauling in nets at a 15-person anchor boat. In addition, <the Song of a spade> is sung by people at the Gwangsan village, Imja-myeon, Shinan-gun when they do rice farming, especially when three spaders shovel away sand from ‘chittol’ or furrows, by singing to the rhythm and tones with front and rear melodies. Likewise, islanders utilize palanquins, anchor boats and spades which they had acquired from the island; minimize force dispersion by getting into the rhythm; consequently transforming and distributing the power into labor songs which are oral heritages.
The labor songs of islands are oral heritages made by islanders who narrated their economic activities, which has characteristics in that the song is a Sori which reflected the uniqueness of the space of islands in the field of history, geography and society (economy) and projected islanders’ sense. <the Song of carrying a palanquin> is maintained by managing the seawall and the ≪Song of an anchor boat≫<Song of hauling in a net> is preserved by a big net of an anchor boat. Moreover, <the Song of a spade> is produced when islanders fight with sands which had been moved by the wind for 20 days through a month in spring.
