지구환경 변화에 따른 섬 인문지형 변동과 섬 정체성의 변화 : 생태·문화적 배경과 방법론을 중심으로 (Changes in the Island Humanistic Topography and the Island Identity due to Global Environmental Changes : Focused on the Ecological-cultural Background and Methodology)

초록

섬과 바다 자원을 이용한 섬 주민의 일상과 주변과의 상호작용에 대한 관계와 교류를 거시적이고 통시적인 관점에서 성찰하고, 논의하는 것이 도서연구의 방향이다. 특히 섬에서의 존재와 삶, 공간, 생명력, 그리고 변화에 대한 물리적, 심리적, 인식적 현상을 체계화하고 가시·비가시적인 형태의 형상이나 구도로 구체화, 재편하는 총체적 변화에 관하여 연구하는 것은 섬의 정체성, 즉 아일랜드니스(islandness)을 밝혀내는데중요한 작업 과정이다. 한국의 섬은 대부분 서해와 남해에 집중하여 분포하고 있으며, 다양한 역사적, 생태적, 문화적인 특성이 있다. 최근 선박과 항공 등으로 접근성이 향상되고, 연안 도서의 경우, 연륙교 사업에 의하여 도시화가 진행되면서 섬의 정체성에대한 논의가 급속도로 진행되고 있다. 연륙·연도교의 설치로 인하여 육지와의 연결성을 높이려는 섬 주민들의 숙원은 해결되고 있지만, 섬의 고유한 문화는 점차 사라지고있다. 지구온난화의 결과로 해수 온도가 상승하면서 어장환경이 변함으로써 어촌마을공동체의 생활방식도 변하고 있다. 이처럼 섬 내부와 외부에서의 인문지형의 변화로인하여 섬의 정체성이 변하고 있고, 오랫동안 생활의 터전이었던 바다 영역의 경계가달라지고 있으며, 접근성의 증가로 인하여 섬과 섬, 섬과 육지와의 네트워크도 변하고있다. 본 논문에서는 과연 지속가능한 섬의 미래상은 무엇이고, 지속가능성을 확보하기 위한 섬의 가치는 무엇인지에 대하여 ‘해양인식’, ‘지구환경변화와 자연자원’, ‘문화정체성’, ‘과학기술과 전통지식’의 글로벌 핵심 주제 관점에서 논의한다.

영어초록

The direction of island research is to reflect on and discuss the relationships and exchanges on the daily life of islanders using island and sea resources and their interactions with their surroundings from a macroscopic and diachronic perspective. In particular, studying the total change of systematizing physical, psychological, and cognitive phenomena of existence, life, space, vitality, and change on an island, and materializing and reorganizing them into visible and invisible shapes and compositions is important to the identity of the island, that is, it is an important working process to reveal the islandness. Most of the Korean islands are concentrated in the Southwestern Sea, and have various historical, ecological, and cultural characteristics. Recently, as accessibility is improved by ships, and in the case of coastal islands, urbanization is progressing due to the land bridge project, discussions about the identity of the island are progressing rapidly. Although the longing of the islanders to increase the connection to the land is being resolved by the construction of the land bridge, the unique culture of the island is gradually disappearing. As the seawater temperature rises as a result of global warming, the fishery environment and the lifestyle of the fishing village community is changing. As such, the identity of the island is changing due to the change in the humanistic topography inside and outside the island, the boundary of the sea area, which has long been the home of life, is changing. In this paper, I discussed what is the cause of changes in the humanistic topography of the island, what is the future image of a sustainable island, and what is the value of the island to secure sustainability. In particular, key themes of global island issues such as ‘ocean awareness’, ‘global environmental change and natural resources’, ‘cultural identity’, and ‘science technology and traditional knowledge’ are selected and discussed around these themes.
