초록

본고에서는 『月川集』에 있는 퇴계 이황과 월천 조목의 「人心道心圖」를 해석하여 퇴계의 人心道心을 재조명하고자 한다. 퇴계의 제자 월천은 『心經附註』 안에 있는 왕백의 「人心道心圖」에 대한 의문을 스승 퇴계에게 질문했으며 더 나아가 왕백의 「人心道心圖」를 부정하고 자신만의 새로운 「人心道心圖」를 제작하여 퇴계에게 보여주었다. 퇴계는 월천의 그림을 보고 두 차례나 수정하였다. 이 과정에서 월천의 「인심도심정일집중도」와 이를 수정한 두 개의 퇴계 「수정도」가 탄생하였다. 기존의 선행연구에서 알 수 있듯이 퇴계는 허겸의 설과 주자의 설을 받아들여, 四端·七情과 마찬가지로 人心·道心을 理와 氣로 해석하였다. 그리고 그는 인심과 도심을 理氣로 해석하면서 道心=理이니 주로 삼고 人心=氣이기에 제어하는 것이 가장 중요한 요점이라고 보았다. 이러한 퇴계의 사상은 월천이 그린 「人心道心精一執中圖」 및 퇴계가 수정한 두 개의 「수정도」에 모두 나타난다. 퇴계와 월천의 모든 그림은 서체 및 위치를 통해 인심과 도심을 나누었으며, 精과 一을 통해 道心이 주가 되고 人心이 그 명령을 따른다는 주희의 설을 표현했으며, 마지막 中으로 이상적인 마음의 상태를 표현했다.

영어초록

This article aims to explore again the Toegye's Human Mind and Moral Mind through Diagram of the Human Mind and the Moral Mind in Collected Works of Wolcheon. Wolcheon, a student of Toegye, questioned his teacher Toegye about the criticism and questions of Wang bai's "Diagram of the Human Mind and the Moral Mind". And Furthermore, he denied Wang bai's "Diagram of the Human Mind and the Moral Mind" and produced his own new "Diagram of the Human Mind and the Moral Mind" to show Toegye. Togye saw the Diagram of Wolcheon and modified it twice. In the process, Wolcheon's "Diagram of the Human Mind the Moral Mind, and Holding On to the Mean with Only one Aim" And two Toegye's "Modified Diagram", Which modified it, were created. As previous prior research suggests, Toegye accepted Hsu ch'ine's theory and the Zuh xi's theory and interpreted the Human Mind(人心) the Moral Mind(道心) as li(理), ki(氣) like four moral sprouts(四端) and seven sentiments(七情). And he interpreted the Human Mind(人心) the Moral Mind(道心) as li(理), ki(氣) and saw that controlling ' the Human Mind(人心)= ki(氣)' with 'the Moral Mind(道心)=li(理)' was the most important point. These ideas of Toegye appear in both the 'Diagram of the Human Mind the Moral Mind, and Holding On to the Mean with Only one Aim' painted by Wolcheon and the 'Modified Diagram' modified by Toegye. All paintings of Wolcheon and Toegye were divided into Human Mind and Moral Mind through typefaces and locations, expressing Zhu xi's theory that Moral mind lead Human mind, which follows the order by means of 'Fine(精) and Singleness(一)'. After which expressing the ideal state of mind through the last equilibrium(中).
