연기(paṭiccasamuppāda)설의 형이상학화 – 설일체유부 문헌을 중심으로 한 인과법칙으로서의 연기 (The Metaphysicalization of Pratītyasamutpāda - Pratītyasamutpāda as a causal law based on the Texts of Sarvāstivāda)

초록

이 글은 설일체유부 문헌을 중심으로 연기설이 정신적 조건화의 가르침에서 사물의 인과법칙으로 확대 적용되는 과정을 고찰하는 데 그 목적을 둔다. 초기불교에서 연기설은 괴로움의 발생과 소멸을 해명하는 실존적 가르침이다. 필자는 연기설이 형이상학적 체계를 갖추게 된 토대로서 인과의 원리가 적용된 점에 주목한다. 유위법으로서의 연기는 원인과 조건의 관계성 속에서 결과를 발생시키는 법칙으로 설명되며, 연이생법과도 분리된다. 심불상응행법은 공간적인 점유를 하지 않으면서 자신만의 특징과 작용을 지닌 객관적인 원리로 현상 세계에 적용된다. 심불상응행법은 유정과 더불어 비유정에게도 적용가능한 물리적 법칙으로서 무형의 원리가 제시되었다는 점에서 의의를 찾을 수 있다. 또한 설일체유부 문헌에는 십이연기에 대해 네 가지 유형의 해석이 있다. 즉 찰나연기, 연박연기, 분위연기, 원속연기 등이다. 이러한 네 가지 유형의 십이연기에 대한 해석은 현상의 발생과 소멸을 설명하기 위한 원리로서의 성격을 지닌다. 필자는 본 고를 통해 연기법이 유위법으로서 존재 일반에 적용 가능하며, 사물의 발생법칙으로 확대 해석되면서 형이상학적 체계를 갖추는 과정을 확인할 수 있었다.

영어초록

The purpose of this article is to examine the process of expanding the application of the theory of Pratītyasamutpāda from the teaching of mental conditioning to the law of causality of things, focusing on the texts of Sarvāstivāda. In early Buddhism, the theory of paṭiccasamuppāda is an existential teaching that explains the occurrence and cessation of suffering. This paper first was considered for the process in which the principle of causality was applied as the basis for establishing the metaphysical system of the Pratītyasamutpāda theory, centering on the texts of Sarvāstivāda. And Various interpretations of the citta-viprayukta-saṁskāra-dharma and the four types of Pratītyasamutpāda were studied. Pratītyasamutpāda as Saṃskrta-Dharma is explained as a law that produces an effect in the relationship between cause and condition, and is also separated from Pratītyasamutpānna Dharma. Citta-viprayukta-saṁskāra-dharma is applied to the present world as an objective principle with its own characteristics and actions without occupying space. Citta-viprayukta-saṁskāra-dharma is a physical law that can be applied to non-living as well as sentient beings. In the texts of Sarvāstivāda, there are various interpretations of Pratītyasamutpāda such as kṣaṇika, sāṃbandhika, āvasthika, prākarāṣika. These four types of Pratītyasamutpāda have been broadly applied as principles for the laws of existence and occurrence of things. Through this study, the writer was able to confirm the process of establishing a metaphysical system as Pratītyasamutpāda can be applied to the general existence of being as Saṃskrta-Dharma, and interpreted broadly as the law of occurrence of things.
