종교개혁 운동의 구성체 탐구 ― 개인 윤리와 공공선의 상관성 (Study on the Groups of the Reformation Movement — Personal Ethics and the Common Good)

초록

이 글은 프로테스탄트 신학 운동에서 제3의 종교개혁 운동을 위한 사상적 공간을 탐색해 보려 한다. 종교개혁 신학 사상은 계몽주의의 새로운 사상의 도전 앞에 개신교 정통주의와 문화-프로테스탄티즘의 반응으로 재구조화되었다. 그 과정에서 종교개혁 사상은 교리의 체계화 속에 갇혀 신앙의 생명력이 약화 되었으며 종교개혁의 근본 신학 원리가 이분화되는 결과를 초래하였다. 종교개혁 신학의 핵심인 칭의론의 원리는 개인의 내적 경건의 영역으로 축소되어 공적 영역에서 사회 윤리적 침묵주의로 비판받았는가 하면 법정적 칭의의 지나친 강조는 타자를 향한 개방과 포용을 배제한 채 하나님 나라의 역동적 사역을 간과하는 결과를 초래하였다는 비판을 받았다.
이 논문은 종교개혁 사상의 근본 정신과 이후 전개된 역사적 해석 사이의 이분화된 경향을 비판적으로 고찰하고, 양자의 매개를 위한 신학적 근거를 제시하여 종교개혁 운동의 역사적 연계성과 지속 가능성을 논의해보려 한다. 이 글은 종교개혁 운동의 성격 규정에는 복잡성과 다원성이 게재되어 있음을 전제로 종교개혁 운동은 사회-정치적인 맥락을 고려하지 않고 교회와 신학의 관점으로만 온전히 파악될 수 없음을 논증하려 한다. 또한 이러한 역사적인 제 관계의 복잡성을 고려하지 않는다면 종교개혁 운동 그 자체에 대한 개념과 평가를 지나치게 단순화할 수 있음을 주장한다.
그러므로 이 글이 의도하는 바는 두 가지이다. 하나는 종교개혁 구성체의 종합적이고 포괄적인 이해를 시도하는 것이고, 다른 하나는 제1의 종교개혁과 제2의 종교개혁의 강조점과 특수성을 분석하여 종교개혁 교회의 정신에 따라 현실 교회가 지향해야 할 방향과 담론의 토대를 제공하는 데에 있다. 이 글이 다루는 내용은 다음과 같다. 우선 제1과 제2의 종교개혁 운동의 성격을 규명하고, 다음으로 양자의 개혁운동을 매개하는 신학적인 고리로써 칭의론 신학의 해석 방법론을 토대로 교회의 변화와 혁신을 위한 제언을 함으로써 마무리하려 한다.

영어초록

This article seeks an ideological basis for the Third Reformation movement in Protestant theology. Reformation thoughts were restructured as a response to Protestant orthodoxy and cultural-Protestantism in the face of the challenge of the new trend of the Enlightenment. In the process, Reformation ideas were trapped in the systemization of doctrine, weakening the vitality of faith, and resulting in the dichotomization of the fundamental theological principle of the Reformation. The principle of justification, which is the core of Reformed theology, has been reduced to the realm of an individual’s inner piety and has been criticized as social and ethical silence in the public sphere, while the excessive emphasis on forensic Justification excludes openness and inclusion toward others. Thus Reformed theology has been criticized for resulting in overlooking dynamic ministry of the Kingdom of God.
This paper discusses the historical connection and sustainability of the Reformation movement by critically examining the dichotomizing tendency that splits the fundamental spirit of the Reformation thought from subsequent historical interpretation. It will present theological grounds for mediation between both. This article argues that the Reformation movement cannot be fully understood only from the perspective of the church and theology without considering the socio-political context, assuming that the characteristics of the Reformation movement include complexity and pluralism. Additionally, it is argued that if the complexity of these historical relationships is not taken into consideration, the concept and evaluation of the Reformation movement itself can be oversimplified.
Therefore, the intention of this article is twofold. One is to attempt a comprehensive understanding of the groups of the Reformation, and the other is to analyze the emphases and special features of the first and second reformations. This article proceeds as followings: I will identify the characteristics of the first and second reform movements, and then conclude by making suggestions for change and innovation in the church based on the interpretive methodology of justification theology as a theological link mediating both those reform movements.
