고려의 간화선과 현대적 과제 (The Ganhwa-Meditation of Goryeo dynasty and The modern perspective)

초록

역사적으로 고려의 간화선은 송대 임제종의 선사상이 수입되면서 시작되었다. 고려후기 임제종이 수입되는 과정은 4시기로 구별하여 볼 수가 있다. 그러나 본고에서는 고려 중기에 임제종 황룡파의 선승과의 교류와 원 간섭이 시작된 충렬왕시대에 만항의 간화선은 검토의 대상에서 제외시켰다. 중기의 황룡파와의 교류는 간화선과 관련이 약하고, 만항의 선사상은 실제로는 수선사와 몽산덕이의 간화선이 중첩되기 때문이다.
그래서 결과적으로 수선사를 중심으로 보조지눌과 그의 제자인 혜심에 의해서 주체적으로 간화선을 수용한 ‘수선사 전통’과 직접 원나라에 들어가서 간화선을 수용한 ‘여말 삼사’의 간화선 사상을 비교 고찰하였다.
사상적으로는 고려 간화선의 이론적 배경, 곧 심리학적인 기반이 무엇인지와 화두참구의 구체적인 방법과 의미에 대해서 수선사 전통과 여말삼사의 간화선 사상을 고찰하였다. 전체적으로 보면, 고려 간화선의 특징은 주체적으로 간화선을 수용한 수선사의 전통을 기반으로 해서 발전되었고, 고려 말에는 원나라에 직접 찾아가 수용한 전통적인 간화선이 결합된 형태를 가진다는 점이다.
마지막으로 간화선의 주된 과제들, 교외별전, 일물의 심성론, 화두의 본질, 점검시스템과 같은 주제들을 현대적 관점에서 평가와 논의를 한다.

영어초록

Historically, the Ganhwa-seon(看話禪) of Goryeo dynasty had started when the Zen-Buddhism Ihmje-jong(臨濟宗) had been imported from Song Kingdom in China to Goryeo Kingdom. The import process of Ihmje-jong in the later part of Goryeo dynasty can be classified into four periods. However, the Ganhwa-seon of Manhang (萬恒) during the ruling of King Chulyeol of Goryeo was excluded from the scope of this study. It was during the ruling of King Chulyeol in the middle of Goryeo when the exchange with Zen-Buddhist monks from Hwangryong-pa (黃龍派) of Ihmje-jong and the intervention of Yuan dynasty on Goryeo had started. The exchange with Hwangryong-pa had weak relation with the Ganhwa -seon. The Sooseon-sa (修禪社) and the Ganhwa-seon of Mongsan-deokee (蒙山德異) actually overlapped in the Zen-Buddhist meditation of Manhang. Therefore, the Ganhwa-seon of Manhang has been excluded from this study scope.


Consequently, the tradition of Sooseon-sa and the Ganhwa-seon of Sam-sa (三師, the Three Monks) were compared and examined. Bojo Jinul(普照知訥) and his disciple Hyesim (慧諶) had subjectively accommodated the Ganhwa-seon at Sooseon -sa; while the Sam-sa (三師, the Three Monks) accommodated the Ganhwa-seon by visiting Yuan Kingdom in person in the end of Goryeo dynasty.


The theoretical background of Goryeo Ganhwa-seon, in other words, what had been the psychological base of Ganhwa-seon and the concrete method/significance of study/meditation through topics were examined by way of Ganhwa-seon of the Sam-sa (三師, the Three Monks) in the end of Goryeo dynasty and the tradition of Sooseon-sa.


When it is seen as a whole, the characteristics of Goryeo Ganhwa-seon developed based on the tradition of Sooseon-sa that had accommodated the Ganhwa-seon subjectively. Then, in the end of Goryeo dynasty, it was combined with traditional Ganhwa-seon that had been accommodated by visiting Yuan(元) Kingdom in person.
As last, the main tasks of Ganhwa-seon, such as the Gyooe-byeoljeon (敎外別傳), Simseong-lon (心性論) based on Ilmul (一物, one object), the essence of topics and the examination system were evaluated and discussed from the modern perspective.
