"鄭石歌"의 소재의 의미와 구조로 본 사랑과그 한계 (Love and its Limitation, examined from the meanings and structures of themes of a Goryeo-gayo "Jeongsoek-ga, 鄭石歌")

초록

본 연구에서는 <정석가>가 여타의 고려가요와 같이 남녀 간의 애정을 노래한다고 본다. 그래서 <정석가>에 내재한 속뜻을 깊이 있게 살펴보는 것도 이 노래를 이해하는 데 도움이 되리라 생각한다. 그 노랫말 속에 담긴 의미와 구조를 중심으로 세밀한 분석을 하였다. 이 노래는 총 6연으로 구성되어 있다. 궁중음악으로서 송도의 성격이 드러나는 1연을 서사(序詞), 2~5연까지를 본사(本詞), <서경별곡(西京別曲)>에 공통으로 삽입된 6연을 결사(結詞)로 하여 3개 단락으로 나뉜다. 이 연구에서 중점적으로 논의한 본사는 “有德유덕신 님믈 여와지이다”라는 종결사를 반복하고, 같은 구조를 가진 문장을 되풀이한다. 또한, 소재와 그에 따른 행위를 바꿔가며 불가능한 가정을 내세워 임과 헤어질 수 없다는 강한 의지를 표현한다. 특히 주목할 만한 부분은 화자의 마음을 표현하는 예사롭지 않은 서술내용이다. 연마다 바뀌는 소재와 그것으로 바라는 행동들이 화자의 현재 심정을 표출하기보다 이미 계산된 의도 아래 서술되는 치밀성을 엿볼 수 있기 때문이다.
본 연구에서는 각 연마다 제시되는 소재인 밤, 옥, 무쇠 등의 존재와 이런 재료로 만든 구운밤과 연꽃, 철릭, 무쇠 소 등을 언급하는 점과 그것을 서술하는 방법을 통해 화자의 심정(心情)과 그 의미를 천착하였다. 이 노래는 ‘단단함’이라는 공통적인 소재를 통하여 임과의 ‘영원성’을 지향한다. 또한, 화자는 자신이 가지고 있는 욕망의 정당성과 확신감을 얻고자 절대 불가능한 가정을 제시한다. 그리고 연마다 소재와 어휘의 탁월한 배치로 비슷한 구조의 단조로움을 피하고 있는 것에서 화자의 지적인 유희(遊戱)를 엿볼 수 있다. 그래서 이 노래에서는 사랑하는 연인과 헤어지는 것을 원하지 않는 애틋하고 간절한 마음이 느껴지기보다는 오히려 임의 마음과는 상관없이 일종의 ‘떼쓰기’ 정도로 폄하될 가능성이 존재한다. 여기에서 <정석가>의 사랑에 대한 한계를 엿볼 수 있다.

영어초록

This study regards <Jeongseok-ga (鄭石歌)> as a song that expresses the affection between men and women, just like other Goryeo-gayos. However, this study has examined the deeper meanings that indwell in <Jeongseok-ga (鄭石歌)> through a detailed analysis of meanings and structures of the song's lyric. This song consists of a total of 6 verses. The song can be divided into 3 sections; the 1st verse, which takes characteristics of blessings as royal court music, can be considered as the prologue, the verses 2 ~ 5 can be considered as the main body, and the verse 6, which had been also inserted in the <Seogyeongbyeolgok (西京別曲)>, can be considered as the epilogue. The main body that is to be primarily discussed in this study repeats an ending that says, Wish to part from my virtuous beloved and reiterates paragraphs that have the same syntax structure. In addition, the narrator presents impossible conditions as she switches materials and the activities thereof, and displays a strong will that she cannot be parted from her lover. An especially noteworthy fact is that the way the narrator expresses her emotion is very unorthodox. Not only the materials that are changed every verse, but also the actions that are wished through the materials can be taken as expressions described under meticulous intentions instead of expressing the narrator's current state of emotion.
In this study, the author intended to identify the intentions that the narrator tried to convey through the existences of materials - chestnut, jade, and cast iron, presented in each verse and the items made from the materials - roasted chestnut, lotus, and cheollik (an overcoat similar to keikogi). The author also tried to get close to the narrator's intent through the way she depicted those. This piece of music aims at 'eternity or perpetuity' through common materials of 'hardness'. In addition, the author tries to instill legitimacy and assuredness to her desire by presenting absolutely impossible conditions in the contents of the main body. Further, the intellectual play of the narrator can be witnessed in the descriptions through meticulously arranged materials and vocabularies, despite having similar structures throughout the lyric. Thus, there is a possibility that this song can be taken as a reckless pestering that makes no consideration of the beloved's emotion rather than feeling the narrator's ardent and earnest love for her beloved. This would be the limitations of love portrayed in <Jeongseok-ga (鄭石歌)>
